Sunday 7th of June. Jesus' Followers.
"Killing Jesus was like trying to destroy a dandelion seed-head by blowing on it"( W. Wink).
The Sermon on the Mount is a call to Jesus' followers to take up their vocation as 'light to the world' and 'salt to the earth', for His kingdom vision to become a reality.
When God wants to change the world, He sends in the meek, the mourners, those who are hungry and thirsty for God's justice, the peace-makers.
"As servants of God we commend ourselves in every way:
in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses;
in beatings, imprisonments and riots;
in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger;
in purity, understanding, patience and kindness;
in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love;
in truthful speech and in the power of God;
with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left;
through glory and dishonor,
bad report and good report;
genuine, yet regarded as impostors;
known, yet regarded as unknown;
dying, and yet we live on;
beaten, and yet not killed;
sorrowful, yet always rejoicing;
poor, yet making many rich;
having nothing, and yet possessing everything"
(2 Corinthians 6: 4-10).

Duminică, 7 iunie. Urmașii Domnului Christos .
„A-l ucide pe Iisus a fost ca și cm ai încerca să distrugi o păpădie suflând în ea” (W. Wink).
Predica de pe Munte este o chemare către urmașii Domnului Christos de a-și asuma vocația de “lumină a lumii” și “sare a pământului”, pentru ca viziunea Împărăției Sale să devină realitate.
Când Dumnezeu vrea să schimbe lumea, El îi trimite pe cei blânzi, pe cei îndurerați, pe cei flămânzi și însetați de dreptatea lui Dumnezeu, pe cei care fac pace.
“Ca slujitori ai lui Dumnezeu, dăm dovadă în toate privințele:
în multă răbdare; în necazuri, în greutăți și în strâmtorări;
în bătăi, în închisori și în răscoale;
în osteneli, în nopți nedormite și în foame;
în curăție, în pricepere, în răbdare, în bunătate;
în Duhul Sfânt și în dragoste sinceră;
în vorbire sinceră și în puterea lui Dumnezeu;
cu armele dreptății la dreapta și la stânga;
în slavă și în ocară,
cu nume rău și cu nume bun;
sinceri, dar socotiți ca impostori;
cunoscuți, dar socotiți ca necunoscuți;
Pe moarte, dar trăim; bătuți, dar nu uciși;
întristați, dar pururea bucuroși;
săraci, dar îmbogățim pe mulți;
n-avem nimic, dar stăpânim totul.”

1st of June. The Three-personal God.
The Holy Trinity, The Father and The Son and The Holy Spirit.
“A world of one dimension would be a straight line.
In a two-dimensional world, you still get straight lines, but many lines make one figure.
In a three-dimensional world, you still get figures but many figures make one solid body.
On the human level, one person is one being, and any two persons are two separate beings.
On the Divine level, you still find personalities, but up there you find them combined in new ways which we cannot imagine. In God's dimensions you find a Being who is three Persons while remaining one Being, just as a cube is six squares while remaining one cube" (C.S.Lewis).

1 Iunie, Sfânta Treime, Tatăl și Fiul și Duhul Sfânt.
"Într-o lume cu o singură dimensiune ai avea o linie dreaptă.
Într-o lume bidimensională, avem linii drepte, dar multe linii formează o figură.
Într-o lume tridimensională, ai figuri, dar mai multe figuri formează un corp solid, un cub.
La nivel uman, o persoană este o ființă, iar oricare două persoane sunt două ființe separate.
La nivel Divin, încă găsești personalități, dar acolo sus le găsești combinate în moduri noi, pe care nu ni le putem imagina.
În dimensiunile lui Dumnezeu găsești o Ființă în care sunt trei Persoane, rămânând în același timp o singură Ființă, la fel cm un cub este format din șase pătrate, rămânând în același timp un singur cub" (C.S.Lewis)

Sunday, 31st of May. The Coming of the Holy Spirit.
A hunter was looking for Lion spoor. A woodman offered to show the hunter the Lion himself. (Aesop, The Hunter and the Woodman).
50 days after the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, many worshipers from foreign lands had come to Jerusalem for Pentecost, a celebration of the time when God had given Moses the laws on Mount Sinai.
Blessed by the Holy Spirit with the gift of speaking in tongues, St. Apostle Peter offered to show people not the footprints of the Lion in the Decalog, but the Lion Himself, Jesus Christ, the Lion of Judah. (Revelation 5:5).
- Who wants to join us?
That day, the Apostles baptised over 3,000 people as followers of Jesus Christ.
The foundation of the Christian Church had been laid!
" They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. All who believed were together and had all things in common" (Acts 2:42).

Duminicā, 31 May. Pogorîrea Duhului Sfânt.
Un vânător căuta urme de leu. Un tăietor de lemne s-a oferit să-i arate vânătorului însuși leul. (Esop, Vânătorul și Tăietorul de lemne).
La 50 de zile după Învierea Domnului nostru Iisus Hristos, mulți închinători din țări străine veniseră la Ierusalim de Rusalii, o sărbătoare a timpului în care Dumnezeu i-a dat lui Moise legile pe Muntele Sinai.
Binecuvântat de Duhul Sfânt cu darul vorbirii în limbi, Sf. Apostol Petru s-a oferit să le arate oamenilor nu urmele Leului din Decalog, ci pe Leul Însuși, Iisus Hristos, Leul din Iuda (Apocalipsa 5:5).
- Cine vrea să ni se alăture?
În ziua aceea, Apostolii au botezat peste 3.000 de oameni ca urmași ai lui Iisus Hristos.
Temelia Bisericii Creștine fusese pusă!
„Ei stăruiau în învățătura apostolilor, în viața de obște, în frângerea pâinii și în rugăciuni. Toți cei ce credeau erau laolaltă și aveau toate lucrurile în comun” (Faptele Apostolilor 2:42).

The Pregnancy Metaphor.
One week before Pentecost. "The pains of childbirth".
Call the Midwife! (The Holy Spirit)!
The creation is in a gestational period, that it has not yet been born into what it is ultimately intended to be.
"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bo***ge to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
Not only so, but we ourselves, the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies" (St Ap. Paul, Letter to Romans 8:18).

Metafora Sarcinii.
O săptămână înainte de Rusalii. „Durerile nașterii”.
Chemați moașa! (Duhul Sfânt)!
Creația se află într-o perioadă gestațională, adică nu s-a născut încă în ceea ce este menită să fie.
„Socotesc că suferințele noastre de acum nu sunt vrednice de comparație cu slava care va fi descoperită în noi.
Căci creația așteaptă cu nerăbdare să se descopere copiii lui Dumnezeu. Căci creația a fost supusă necazului, nu din voia ei, ci din voia celui ce a supus-o, în nădejdea că ea însăși creația va fi eliberată de robia stricăciunii și adusă în libertatea și slava copiilor lui Dumnezeu.
Știm că toată creația suspină până în vremea de acum ca în durerile nașterii.
Nu numai atât, dar și noi înșine, care suntem pârga Duhului, suspinăm înăuntru, așteptând cu nerăbdare înfierea noastră, răscumpărarea trupurilor noastre.” (Sf. Ap Pavel, Scrisoare către Romani 8:18).

Sunday 24th May, Nicaea 325, The Creed.
Arius vs. St. Spyridon. Knowledge of God or Belief in Him?
A little faith in God is more than a great deal of knowledge about God. One can know a great deal about godliness without much knowledge of God.
"If we believe in God,(J. Packer 'Knowing God') the unpleasantness we have had, or the pleasantness we have not have, through being Christians, does not matter to us. If we are not saying it, that is a sign that we need to face ourselves more sharply with the difference between knowing God and merely knowing about Him.
- Those who believe in God have great energy for Him, like Daniel. When Darius suspended the practice of praying for a month, on pain of death, Daniel did pray in front of an open window.
- Those who believe in God have great thoughts of Him. Daniel said, "Praise be to the Name of God for ever; wisdom and power are His. He changes times and seasons; He set up kings and deposed them; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him" (Daniel Book 2:20, in the Bible).
- Those who believe in God show great boldness for Him. " We must obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29).
- Those who belief in God have peace :"Since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ". (Romans 8:1).

Whether I die or live;
To love and serve You is my share,
And this Your grace must give.
If life be long, I will be glad,
That I may long obey;
If short- then why should I be sad
To soar to endless day? (Richard Baxter, 1681).

Duminică, 24 mai, Niceea 325, Crezul.
Arie arogant și Sf. Spiridon modest.
Cunoaștere de Dumnezeu sau credință în El?
Puțină credință în Dumnezeu face mai mult decât multă cunoaștere despre Dumnezeu. Se poate multǎ evlavie fără prea multă cunoaștere a lui Dumnezeu.
"Dacă noi credem în Dumnezeu,(J. Packer 'Knowing God'), neplăcerile pe care le-am avut sau plăcerile pe care nu le-am avut, fiind creștini, nu contează pentru noi. Dacă nu spunem așa, este un semn că trebuie să ne confruntăm mai clar cu diferența dintre a-L cunoaște și a crede în El.
- Cei care cred în Dumnezeu au o mare energie pentru El, la fel ca Daniel. Când Darius a suspendat practica rugăciunii timp de o lună, sub amenințarea morții, Daniel s-a rugat în fața unei ferestre deschise.
- Cei care cred în Dumnezeu au gânduri mărețe despre El. Daniel a spus: „Slǎvit fie Numele lui Dumnezeu în veci! Înțelepciunea și puterea sunt ale Lui. El schimbă vremurile și soroacele; El a pus împărați și i-a doborât; El știe ce este în întuneric și lumina locuiește cu El” (Daniel 2:20, în Biblie).
- Cei care cred în Dumnezeu arată o mare îndrăzneală pentru El. „Trebuie să ascultăm de Dumnezeu mai mult decât de oameni” (Faptele Apostolilor 5:29).
- Cei care cred în Dumnezeu au pace: „Fiindcă suntem îndreptățiți prin credință, avem pace cu Dumnezeu, prin Domnul nostru Iisus Hristos”. (Romani 8:1).

“Doamne, nu este treaba mea
Dacă mor sau trăiesc;
Să Te iubesc și să Te slujesc este partea mea,
Și aceasta este partea Ta de har.
Dacă viața este lungă, mă voi bucura,
Ca să Te pot asculta mult timp;
Dacă este scurtă - atunci de ce ar trebui să fiu trist
că mă înalți spre o zi fără sfârșit?” (Richard Baxter, 1681).

40 days after Easter : Ascension of Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 24:50).
Out of sight, but not out of mind!
"You ascended from before our eyes, and we turned back grieving, only to find You in our hearts" ( Augustine).
The Law and the prophets had focused like a beam of light on the One who was to come, and now that light, as if hitting a prism, would fracture and shoot out in human spectrum of waves and colours.
The Twelve received a worldwide commission : salvation offered to the whole word.
But the Apostles, until they were clothed with power from on high, they were to stay in Jerusalem and not attempt to fulfil their superhuman task by merely human means.

40 de zile după Paște: Înălțarea Domnului Iisus Hristos (Luca 24:50).
Departe de ochii noștri, dar nu și de minte!
„Te-ai înălțat dinaintea ochilor noștri și ne-am întors înapoi întristați, doar ca să Te găsim în inimile noastre” (Augustin).
Legea și profeții se concentraseră ca o rază de lumină asupra Celui care urma să vină, iar acum acea lumină, ca și cm ar fi lovit o prismă, avea să se fractureze și să țâșnească într-un spectru uman de unde și culori.
Cei Doisprezece primesc o Trimitere Mondială : mântuirea oferită întregii omeniri .
Dar Apostolii, până când nu erau îmbrăcați cu putere de sus, trebuiau să rămână în Ierusalim și să nu încerce să-și îndeplinească sarcina supraomenească prin mijloace pur omenești.

17th of May, The 6th Sunday of Easter.
We are more than our brains!
"As a neuroscientist, I've measured the electrical activity of people's brain, but I can't measure their experience in the same way. I can't measure what's in their minds. Why not? Because the brain alone is not enough to explain the mind.
What if the blind born man (Gospel of John 9) were a scientist who had detailed knowledge of the physics and chemistry of vision? He knew all about the intricate structure of the eye, how it functions, and how it sends electrical signals to the brain through the optic nerve, where they're converted into images. He was blind and one day suddenly was able to see!
At that moment of receiving his sight, does he learn anything new about vision?
Of course!
That means physical facts alone cannot explain the first-person experience of consciousness. No amount of knowledge about the physical working of the eye and brain would get him closer to the experience of what it's like to actually see.
Consciousness simply cannot be synonymous with brain activity.
We are more than just our brains!
I am a soul and I have a body!" (Neuroscientist Sharon Dircks, PhD).

17 May, A 6-a duminică de Paște.
Suntem mai mult decât creierele noastre!
„Ca neurocercetător, am măsurat activitatea electrică a creierului oamenilor, dar nu pot măsura experiența lor în același mod. Nu pot măsura ce este în mintea lor. De ce nu? Pentru că creierul singur nu este suficient pentru a explica mintea.
Ce-ar fi dacă orbul din naștere (Evanghelia după Ioan 9) ar fi fost un om de știință care avea cunoștințe detaliate despre fizica și chimia vederii? El știa totul despre structura complexă a ochiului, cm funcționează și cm trimite semnale electrice către creier prin nervul optic, unde acestea sunt convertite în imagini. Era orb și într-o zi a putut dintr-o dată să vadă!
În acel moment în care și-a primit vederea, a învățat el ceva nou despre vedere?
Desigur!
Asta înseamnă că faptele fizice singure nu pot explica experiența conștiinței la persoana întâi. Nicio cantitate de cunoștințe despre funcționarea fizică a ochiului și a creierului nu l-ar apropia de experiența a ceea ce este să vezi cu adevărat.
Conștiința pur și simplu nu poate fi sinonimă cu activitatea creierului.
Suntem mai mult decât creierul nostru!

13th of May.
The Feast of Tabernacles is over.
Jesus did not have "The right home address"!
"You know Me and also know where I am from. Yet I did not come on my own"(John 7:1).
This moment is one of the most confrontational passages in the Gospels, and shows how hatred by the Establishment leads inexorably to the arrest and death of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Hatred for goodness was the same when the 'Book of Wisdom' in the Bible was written at Alexandria in Egypt about 100 years before Christ. The book wisely understands that without a belief in God true goodness isn't possible. It sets forth wicked people's erroneous philosophy of life - completely this-worldly.
The Temple guards did not arrest Jesus because "Never before has anyone spoken like this one"!
They resolve to plot against the good person. Why? Because His life and words are a reproach to them :
" Let us beset the just one, because he is obnoxious to us; he sets himself against our doings, reproaches us for transgressions of the law"(Book of Wisdom 2:12).

13 mai.
Sărbătoarea Corturilor s-a terminat.
Iisus Cristos nu avea „adresa potrivită de acasă”!
„Mă cunoașteți și știți de unde sunt. Totuși, n-am venit de la Mine Însumi” (Ioan 7:1).
Acest moment este unul dintre cele mai conflictuale pasaje din Evanghelii și arată cm ura din partea Autorității duce inexorabil la arestarea și moartea Domnului nostru Iisus Hristos.
Ura față de bine era aceeași și când „Cartea Înțelepciunea lui Solomon” din Biblie a fost scrisă la Alexandria, în Egipt, cu aproximativ 100 de ani înainte de Hristos. Autorul înțelege cu înțelepciune că, fără credința în Dumnezeu, adevărata bunătate nu este posibilă. Cartea prezintă filosofia eronată de viață a oamenilor răi - complet lumească.
Gărzile Templului nu l-au arestat pe Domnul Christos pentru că „Niciodată n-a vorbit cineva așa cm a vorbit acesta”!
Conducātorii complotează împotriva unui om bun. De ce? Pentru cā viața și învățătura Lui îi stingherește :"Sā vînām pe cel drept, fiindcă ne stingherește și se împotrivește isprāvilor noastre și ne scoate vina ca stricām Legea" (Cartea Înțelepciunii lui Solomon 2:12).

INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY.
12th of May 1820, Florence Nightingale's birth, the founder of the modern nursing.
She was the unstoppable wartime nurse known as the "Lady with the Lamp"(at night she used a lamp to care for sick soldiers).
A team of 38 volunteer nurses left London in October 1854 to care for British soldiers fighting in the Crimean war in Turkey.
Her story inspires us to use our voice for good, to care for others, especially those in need, and to work hard to achieve our goals no matter what challenges get in the way.

Today is a day we celebrate and recognise the hard work, compassion and resilience our nurses demonstrate every day.
To all of our caring, dedicated and hard-working nurses - thank you.
I will always back you and advocate for you.

ZIUA INTERNAȚIONALĂ A ASISTENTELOR MEDICALE.
12 mai 1820, nașterea asistentei Florence Nightingale, inițiatoarea asistenței medicale moderne.
A fost asistenta medicală entuziastă din timpul războiului, cunoscută sub numele de „Doamna cu Lampa” ( noaptea îngrijea soldații bolnavi la lumina lǎmpii).
38 de asistente din Londra au plecat în Turcia să îngrijească soldații englezi în războiul din Crimea în octombrie 1854.
Povestea ei ne inspiră să ne folosim vocea pentru bine, să avem grijă de ceilalți, în special de cei aflați în nevoie, și să muncim din greu pentru a ne atinge obiectivele, indiferent de provocările care ne ies în cale.

Astăzi este o zi în care sărbătorim și recunoaștem munca asiduă, compasiunea și rezistența de care dau dovadă asistentele noastre în fiecare zi.
Tuturor asistentelor noastre grijulii, dedicate și harnice - vă mulțumesc.
Vă voi susține și vă voi apăra mereu.
