You’re welcome here.

At it's core, Tailrace Community is a bunch of people like we read about in Acts 2 who have a faith that is vibrant and healthy, with hearts that want to love of their community. Tailrace Community is a group of people who enjoy being with each other and who put their faith into action in a multitude of ways so that people will know that they matter to them and that hype matter to God.

Maybe you’re curious about faith.

Or perhaps you’ve been looking for a church community, wondering where you might belong.

Recently, we spent time reflecting on our story as a church. As we looked back, five values kept appearing in the decisions we’d made, the risks we’d taken, and the way we’ve tried to follow Jesus together.

They’re not things we’ve perfected.
They’re simply some of the convictions that continue to shape us.

Your calling is to be an apprentice of Jesus.

Before we lead, serve, teach, give, or go, our first calling is to learn from Jesus how to live like Jesus.

Apprenticeship isn’t simply about gaining more information. It’s about formation. It’s allowing Jesus to shape who we are, how we think, what we value, and how we relate to others.

And because of that, discipleship is unavoidably relational.

It’s relational with Jesus as we learn to recognise His voice and follow His way.

And it’s relational with others as we encourage one another, share life together, ask honest questions, and practise the way of Jesus in community.

It’s also intentional.

Nobody drifts into apprenticeship. We become like Jesus as we intentionally make space for Him to form us over time.

At Tailrace, we believe discipleship is not a program to complete. It’s a lifelong journey of apprenticing ourselves to Jesus and helping others do the same.

Faith becomes real as we learn to follow Him together.

Sowing into the next generation is one of the greatest investments we can make.

Every act of care and moment of encouragement matters.

We’re grateful for those helping young people grow towards who they were created to become.

There’s a place for every person.

Belonging matters. Finding people you can do life with matters.

Whether that’s here at Tailrace or somewhere else, we hope you find a community where you can truly belong.

Sometimes it’s hard to know what’s real anymore. It can be very disorientating.

Against which the church’s voice of authenticity matters.

There are times when I finish preaching and think: “that wasn’t my best. It wasn’t very polished. I struggled to get that point across and I get a little lost”.

And sometimes we sing the wrong words or have awkward transitions.

That doesn’t mean we stop bringing our best. We prepare. We care. We give what we have. We try and improve and offer God our best as worship.

But we aren’t interested in creating a performance that hides our humanity.

The truth is God has always, and will always, work through ordinary people.
His strength is made perfect in our weakness.

Which is why as a church we value people over systems, authenticity over performance and faithfulness over a worldly picture of “success”.

So in an age where the line between artificial and real is increasingly blurred… our community aspire to be unapologetically human, authentic and genuine. Mistakes and all.

If you’re searching for something real to ground you, you’re welcome to come and journey with us.

These photos capture some of our incredible youth leaders serving together at summer camp.

And in many ways, they reflect something bigger that we’re seeking to grow as a church.

One of the shifts we feel the Church is being invited into is moving from program to shared life.

The Sunday gathering matters. But church doesn’t begin at 10am and end at 11:15am.

It looks like arriving early for prayer.
Lingering over coffee and conversation.
Opening Scripture together around a table.
Praying for one another.
Sharing a meal.
Heading to the park together.
Walking alongside each other through the ordinary moments of life.

When faith becomes something we share together—not just something we attend—it starts to feel more real, more connected, and more life-giving.

That’s the kind of community we’re seeking to grow together.

We love Tassie.

Recently, Gordon Ramsay called Tasmania one of the best food and wine destinations in the world.

Which sounds perfectly good to us.

Eating and feasting are part of our DNA.

Scripture describes God’s plan — at the beginning and at the end — like a feast.

And time and again, we see the same pattern: people gathering around tables, eating together, making room for one another.

Maybe that’s part of why we feel so grateful to live here.

In a place known for hospitality, produce, conversation, and shared meals, we get to live out something deeply woven through the story of Scripture.

Honestly, how good is that?
