As part of the interview process, the kids & youth were invited to ask their questions.
Here are Madi’s responses:
CAN YOU SOLVE A RUBIK’S CUBE?
I cannot solve a rubik’s cube! My uncle gave me one when I was a kid but I could never figure out how to do it. Whoever asked this question - can you teach me?
DO YOU LIKE TO PLAY UNO AND OTHER GAMES?
I love playing Uno and other games. Whenever I hang out with my friends, I ask them to come to my house and play games with me.
DO YOU LIKE CRAFT?
I love art and craft. I enjoy being creative and it also helps me feel calm.
DO YOU LIKE MINECRAFT?
I have never played the game Minecraft, but my fiance and I watched The Minecraft Movie this week and we thought it was really funny.
WHAT BOARD GAMES DO YOU LIKE?
My favourites are: Monopoly, Spleandor - gem trading game, & Risk - army building game
WHAT CARD GAMES DO YOU LIKE?
My favourites are: Monopoly deal, Uno, Scumbags & Warlords
WHAT VIDEO GAMES DO YOU LIKE?
I like playing brain games on my iPad - things like sudoku, crosswords and wordle.
My other favourite video games are Hay Day and Outlanders - they are both games that you build farms.
ALSO, ARE YOU GOOD AT CRAFT?
I think I’m good at craft.
WHY CAN’T WE FLY?
I sat and thought about this for quite some time. I started by thinking that we don’t have wings. Then, I asked my fiance what he thought - he said it’s because we are heavier than air, and gravity pulls us down
and our bodies are not aerodynamic. He loves planes so he knows a lot about flying.
Then, we realised that we actually can fly (in a paraglider, or a plane), but we can’t fly without help. Does that count?

YUP.
HOW OLD ARE YOU?
25… do you think that’s old or young?
HAVE YOU READ THE BIBLE?
Yeah I have 🙂 I’ve read all of the Old Testament except for Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. I want to read them, but I found them hard to read because I didn’t understand them very well. I like to watch YouTube videos like The Bible Project to help me when I find it difficult to understand. I’ve read most of the New Testament, but I want to read it again. I think I can learn new things even if I read the same thing in the Bible multiple times.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE STORY IN THE BIBLE?
The Good Samaritan. I like that it teaches us to take care of everyone by thinking about what is right - not relying on what the rest of the world thinks.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK?
My favourite book is The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe because I like the characters and the way I can imagine the story in my mind when I read it. My favoutie book in the Bible is James - I feel like every sentence teaches me something new.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR?
My favourite colour is pink, but I also love teal which is like a mix of blue and green.
DO YOU LIKE CHILDREN?
Yes! I think children are fun, creative and can teach adults so much.
WHAT DO YOU FOCUS ON DURING THE SESSIONS?
During the sessions, I focus on: Something fun (a game or something creative/craft based). Something we can learn about and apply to our lives.
WILL YOU BE WILLING TO LISTEN TO THE KIDS/YOUTH AND WHAT THEY WANT TO DO, WHILE STILL KEEPING THINGS REASONABLE AND ORGANISED, NOT CHAOTIC?
I understand there can be tension between listening to the group and keeping the group organised at the same time. I hope to begin our time together finding out what you guys want to do in our sessions so that I can plan based on what you like. I will check in with you as we go and you can give me feedback on how you think it’s going. I hope to stay flexible to the needs of the group, whilst still being able to make
supportive decisions.
WILL YOU BE ABLE TO TEACH US ABOUT FAITH WHILE RECOGNISING THAT WE MAY HAVE DIFFERENT VIEWS TO YOU, AND WILL YOU MAKE SURE TO NEVER TRY TO FORCE YOUR BELIEFS ON US?
It is really important that I don’t force my beliefs on you. I wouldn’t like it if someone did that to me, so I expect the same thing from myself. I will teach you about faith by having discussions with you around what I have read, heard and studied in the Bible, and I want to hear your thoughts and opinions too. We will learn together.
HOW WILL YOU HELP US WITH OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS?
I want to create a safe space for discussion about Jesus, God, the Bible and thoughts about life. If you have a question that I don’t know the answer to, I will go and speak to other people and research as much as I can so that we can learn together. I will be honest with you about my thoughts, and you can ask me questions. I will pray with you and encourage you in the things that are important to you in your
relationship with Jesus.
