Last Tuesday we celebrated Anne's commissioning as Missional Spirituality Pastor for Northcote Uniting Church. We're thankful for Anne has done for the community so far, and looking forward to seeing what new things she will bring to the community in this exciting new year of opportunities.

The Uniting Church acknowledges with sadness the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. President Rev Sharon Hollis has offered this prayer:

God of life and death,
We give you thanks for the life of Queen Elizabeth.
For her faithfulness,
her life of service,
and dedication to duty.

We pray for all who now mourn her,
particularly her family,
the people of the United Kingdom and many others around the world.

May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Amen.

“And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13

This is the conclusion of one of the most well known passages in Scripture. But it is almost exclusively read at weddings. What, if any, relevance does it have to the rest of life?

Pilate asked him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." John 18:37

Is there anything which suits the modern mind less than the idea of the feast of the "reign of Christ"? It carries all sorts of archaic implications (is it really any better than its old name of Christ the King?) Join us as we dig down into what the idea is getting at, and how it is formative of a worthwhile, meaningful, connected life in our contemporary society.
