Last Sunday we were delighted to meet with Meryl and Peter Stockton all the way from Queensland while visiting Renmark on holidays.

Meryl is a grandchild of Mr. Len Darrington, the first Secretary of the Trustees at the Renmark West Union Church and an integral part of our church’s construction. In fact; the Top Light of the front door and two windows in the main room were donated by Mr. Darrington in 1919.

“Stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath set thee free.”

🥳🎂🎈106 Years ago on this day (November 6th, 1919) the Foundation Stones were laid at the Renmark West Union Church by the Rev. McCutcheon and Dr. Christina Krakowsky. 🎁🎉⛪️

The North-side Foundation Stone of our church is also believed to be the first War Memorial in the Renmark District following The Great War, which had ended just less than a year before.

An interesting read from both a history perspective and our Church Community perspective. Walter Dunhill was long-time parishioners at Renmark West, with Agnes and himself being the second couple to be married in our Church on April 26th, 1922.
Walter was also the Chairman of our Church beginning in 1922.
Vicki & Deane are still parishioners at our Church today, and were also married at Renmark West on September 28th, 2019. 😁⛪️📖🖋️🔔🥳

A diary dating back to pre-World War I that was left on the doorstep of an RSL club in Adelaide has been united with the descendants of its writer.

100 Years ago, tomorrow this photo was taken inside our little Church.
On March 8th, 1925, Harvest Thanksgiving was celebrated at Renmark West with a fine arrangement of decorations inside the building. The Rev. Hawke (Prime Minister Bob Hawke's father) preached to some 60 parishioners in the afternoon, followed by Rev. Dickson in the evening with an equally as large congregation. The inside display was photographed by Mr. E. H. Secombe.

🌹🌷A Happy Mother's Day to all our mothers out there! 🥳🥰😘🎁💐

At Renmark West this morning we were celebrating another special anniversary - Michael Wickham's 40th Anniversary of playing the Organ at Renmark West!
Michael started playing when he was 15 and filling in for his Grandma, Doris, in 1982, but took over as the Resident Organist on Mother's Day 1984, aged 17.
. . I might stand to be corrected maybe; But I think Dad is currently the longest-serving organist in any Church in the Riverland in 2024. . . and probably further afield.
Two previous long-standing Riverland Organists that I know of were Cuthbert Ayling (Alec's father) serving 62 years at the Barmera Congregational Church and our own Percy Capes, serving the record of 64 years at Renmark West between 1918 and 1982.

We were lucky enough to be visited by some of the Richards family today for our 8:30 service.
Phillip Richards and his daughter Janet and Chris and two children Keira and Cianan (the fifth generation of their family to have worshipped at Renmark West now)
Phil's father, Les, was a life-long friend of my great-grandfather, Frank Wickham's, even being the best man in his wedding in 1935!

When Wickham's first came to Renmark in April 1919 they stayed for the first three months with Sam and Maggie Richards (Les' parents) who lived across the road from Len & Milly Wickham's new block on Chowilla St. - There was only the one bowl between the two families to wash the dishes, the kids' feet, the horse's sore shoulders, make the butter AND the cake!

Both houses on Chowilla St. still stand today.
