The Lion Pilgrimage to Italy and Rome July 2026
Launched by Bishop Tony Percy this year the Lion Pilgrimage
is intended to form young Catholics in the Church’s social
teaching and to help prepare them for leadership in the
Church and society. Pilgrims will travel across Italy and be
educated in Catholic social teaching, to gain a deeper
understanding of human dignity, the common good,
solidarity and subsidiarity, and to consider how these
principles can be lived in public, professional and parish life.
Those who take part will return with renewed faith, a stronger
sense of mission, lasting friendships, and practical
leadership formation which can bear fruit in the life of the
Church and in wider society. Many of you will know one of
the participants, Dylan House, and if anyone would like to
help Dylan and contribute to the cost of Dylan’s pilgrimage
please contact the Parish Office.

From Bishop Tony Percy:
Pope Leo XIV has issued Magnifica Humanitas. You
guessed. It means Magnificent Humanity.

The sub-title reads:
Safeguarding the human person in the time of artificial
intelligence.
I have read the 42,088-word document – twice. I asked
various AI platforms for a summary. All were mediocre:

Natural intelligence has, and will continue to have, the
upper hand.
AI can be used for good or for ill, precisely because it is a tool in our hands. Many benefits will come from AI. We experience some now. Likewise, there are clear and present dangers
emerging. These too are being felt.
A line of Magnificent Humanity bespeaks wisdom:

Our first task is neither to demonise nor idolise AI (MH 137).

The pope places before us a choice.
We can either build the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11) or we
can rebuild the walls of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 2-6).
The former activity was a Godless enterprise:

They tried building without God and found themselves
confused and scattered.
The latter activity was a Godly enterprise:

Nehemiah fasted, prayed and consulted. The rebuilding
project succeeded ‘through shared responsibility: men,
women, priests, artisans, heads of households and
young people.

How do we want to live?
AMEN.

Whilst we’ll never know everything about God, we reflect today upon the endless outpouring of love between Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and the ways love overflows in our creation and redemption.

If we are created in God’s image and made to be like God, then like the Persons of God we find our identity and mission through each other, with each other, and in each other; in pouring ourselves out for others in service; in being and becoming love, just as God is love.

In a world that puts selfishness and ego before kindness and sacrifice, division and domination above unity and peace, hatred ahead of love, the children of the Trinitarian God are to be the antidote.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Pope Leo XIV has appealed for peace in the world throughout his pontificate. His appeals have been accompanied with consistent calls for prayer.
For that reason, the Pope will preside over the recitation of the Holy Rosary at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in the Vatican Gardens on Saturday, May 30, at 7:00 pm, at the conclusion of the Marian month.

All people and all Shrines around the world are invited to join him in praying the Rosary.

Pope Leo will pray the Joyful Mysteries, with each decade being dedicated specifically for those affected by war and violence and entrusting them to the intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace.

First mystery prays for the victims of war, especially the most vulnerable.
Second mystery is for those who bring words of hope and the comfort of faith to populations affected by war. Third mystery recalls the medical and paramedical personnel and volunteers who bring humanitarian aid every day.
Fourth mystery prays for those who suffer the violence of war, for prisoners and for all who endure humiliations that violate human dignity.
Fifth and final Joyful Mystery is dedicated to praying for an end to war and the establishment of lasting peace in the world.

Accompanying his repeated calls for an end to war, Pope Leo XIV will preside over the recitation of the Holy Rosary on May 30 in the Vatican Gardens, ...
