+ The Sins of the Tongue:
“By your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
(Matthew 12:37).
*Our Lord Jesus Christ placed great importance on our words because they reveal the true condition of our hearts. The tongue itself is not evil; rather, it expresses what is within us.
*The Lord said:
“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34).
*Likewise, St. James wrote:
“The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity.” (James 3:6).
*These passages are a solemn warning that our words have eternal significance.

1. Does this mean that I am condemned just because of my words only?
*Not simply because words are spoken, but because words reveal the state of the heart.
*The Lord also said:
“Every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.” (Matthew 12:36).
*Words are evidence of what is inside us.
*If a heart is filled with:
* Love, it speaks love.
* Faith, it speaks faith.
* Peace, it speaks peace.
* Humility, it speaks humility.
*But if it is filled with:
* Pride,
* Hatred,
* Anger,
* Bitterness,
* Envy,
* Deceit,
*the tongue simply reveals what already exists.
*Our salvation is by the grace of God through faith working in love (Ephesians 2:8–10; Galatians 5:6), yet our words will testify either for us or against us, because they reveal whether our faith has transformed our hearts.

2. How can I control my tongue?
*No one can tame the tongue by willpower alone.
*St. James says:
“No man can tame the tongue.” (James 3:8).
*Only the Holy Spirit can.
*Practical ways:
A. Pray before speaking.
*David prayed:
“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.”(Psalm 141:3).

B. Think before speaking:
*Ask yourself:
* Is it true?
* Is it necessary?
* Is it kind?
* Will it glorify God?

C. Learn silence:
“The one who speaks little rarely sins.”
“In the multitude of words sin is not lacking.”(Prov 10:19).
*St Arsanious once said:
“Many times I had talked and regretted it but I was never regretted being Silent”.

D. Slow down:
“Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” (James 1:19).

E. Fill your heart with Scripture:
*A heart filled with Christ naturally speaks Christ.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” (Colossians 3:16).

*Do not justify sinful speech.

4. How can such a small member of my body harm me so much and even lead me to hell?
*Because the tongue controls much more than its size suggests.
*St. James gives three powerful illustrations:
A. The horse’s bit:
*A tiny bit controls a powerful horse. (James 3:3).

B. A ship’s rudder:
A tiny rudder directs an enormous ship. (James 3:4).

C. A small spark:
One tiny spark can burn an entire forest. (James 3:5–6).
*Likewise:
One sentence can:
* destroy a marriage,
* divide a church,
* ruin a friendship,
* crush a child,
* damage a reputation,
* or spread false teaching.
*Conversely, one word can encourage, heal, comfort, and lead someone to Christ.
*That is why Proverbs says:
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
(Proverbs 18:21).
*The tongue does not condemn us because it is physically small; it is dangerous because it can express a heart turned away from God. Persisting in unrepented sinful speech is part of a life that resists God’s transforming grace.

5. How can I be saved from the sins of the tongue?
*The answer begins with a transformed heart:
A. Ask Christ to purify your heart:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God.” (Psalm 51:10).

B. Pray every day:
“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth.” (Psalm 141:3).

C. Speak less:
Many sins disappear when we speak less.

D. Read Scripture daily:
The more God’s Word fills your heart, the more gracious your speech becomes.

E. Stay away from gossip:
Leave conversations that dishonour others.

F. Bless instead of curse:
“Bless those who curse you.”
(Luke 6:28).

G. Use your tongue to glorify God:
Speak words that:
* Encourage
* Comfort
* Teach
* Pray
* Forgive
* Thank
* Praise
* Build others up:
“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification.”(Ephesians 4:29).

*The Christian Use of the Tongue:
Instead of using the tongue to:
* Lie,
* Gossip,
* Judge,
* Complain,
* Criticize,
* Wound,
* Boast,
*use it to:
* Praise God,
* Pray,
* Teach the truth,
* Encourage the discouraged,
* Comfort the suffering,
* Speak peace,
* Bless others,
* Witness for Christ,
* Give thanks.
*As St. James reminds us:
“Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.”
(James 3:10).
*May our prayer always be the prayer of the Psalmist:
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14).
*When our hearts belong to Christ, our words increasingly reflect His love, truth, and grace, becoming instruments of blessing rather than harm.

خطايا اللسان:
«لأَنَّكَ بِكَلاَمِكَ تَتَبَرَّرُ، وَبِكَلاَمِكَ تُدَانُ.»
(متى 12: 37).
*لقد أولى ربنا يسوع المسيح أهمية عظيمة لكلماتنا، لأنها تكشف الحالة الحقيقية لقلوبنا. فاللسان في حدِّ ذاته ليس شريرًا، لكنه يُعبِّر عمّا يملأ القلب.
*قال الرب:
«فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلَةِ الْقَلْبِ يَتَكَلَّمُ الْفَمُ.»
(متى 12: 34).
*ويقول أيضًا القديس يعقوب الرسول:
«اللِّسَانُ نَارٌ، عَالَمُ الإِثْمِ»(يعقوب 3: 6).
*وهذه الآيات تُقدِّم لنا تحذيرًا جادًا بأن كلماتنا لها أهمية أبدية.

1- هل معنى هذا أنني أُدان بسبب كلامي فقط؟
*ليس لأن الكلمات تُقال في حدِّ ذاتها، بل لأن الكلمات تكشف حالة القلب.
*فالرب يقول أيضًا:
«وَأَقُولُ لَكُمْ: إِنَّ كُلَّ كَلِمَةٍ بَطَّالَةٍ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِهَا النَّاسُ، سَوْفَ يُعْطُونَ عَنْهَا حِسَابًا يَوْمَ الدِّينِ.» (متى 12: 36).
*الكلمات هي الدليل على ما بداخل الإنسان.
*فإن كان القلب مملوءًا بـ:
* المحبة،
* الإيمان،
* السلام،
* الاتضاع،
*فإن اللسان يتكلم بهذه الأمور.
*أما إذا كان القلب مملوءًا بـ:
* الكبرياء،
* الكراهية،
* الغضب،
* المرارة،
* الحسد،
* الخداع،
*فاللسان لا يفعل سوى أن يُظهر ما هو موجود بالفعل في الداخل.
*إن خلاصنا هو بنعمة الله بالإيمان العامل بالمحبة (أفسس 2: 8–10؛ غلاطية 5: 6)، ولكن كلماتنا ستكون شاهدة لنا أو علينا، لأنها تكشف إن كان الإيمان قد غيَّر قلوبنا حقًا.

2- كيف أضبط لساني؟
*لا يستطيع أحد أن يروِّض اللسان بقوة إرادته وحدها.
*فالقديس يعقوب يقول:
«وَأَمَّا اللِّسَانُ فَلاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَحَدٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ أَنْ يُذَلِّلَهُ.» (يعقوب 3: 😎.
*فالروح القدس وحده هو القادر أن يغيِّر القلب ويقدِّس اللسان:
أ- صلِّ قبل أن تتكلم.
*لقد صلى داود النبي قائلًا:
«يَا رَبُّ، اجْعَلْ لِفَمِي حَارِسًا، وَاحْفَظْ بَابَ شَفَتَيَّ.» (مزمور 141: 3).

ب- فكِّر قبل أن تتكلم:
*اسأل نفسك:
* هل هذا الكلام حق؟
* هل هو ضروري؟
* هل هو لطيف؟
* هل يمجِّد الله؟

ج- تعلَّم فضيلة الصمت:
«كَثْرَةُ الْكَلاَمِ لاَ تَخْلُو مِنْ مَعْصِيَةٍ.»
(أمثال 10: 19).
*وقال القديس أرسانيوس:
«كثيرًا ما تكلمت فندمت، أما عن صمتي فلم أندم قط.»

د- تمهَّل في الكلام:
«لِيَكُنْ كُلُّ إِنْسَانٍ مُسْرِعًا فِي الاسْتِمَاعِ، مُبْطِئًا فِي التَّكَلُّمِ، مُبْطِئًا فِي الْغَضَبِ.»
(يعقوب 1: 19).

هـ- املأ قلبك بكلمة الله:
*فالقلب الممتلئ بالمسيح يتكلم بالمسيح.
«لِتَسْكُنْ فِيكُمْ كَلِمَةُ الْمَسِيحِ بِغِنًى.»
(كولوسي 3: 16).

و- إذا أخطأت، اعترف بسرعة:
*لا تبرر كلامك الخاطئ، بل تب عنه فورًا.

3- ما هي خطايا اللسان؟
أولًا: خطايا ضد الله:
* التجديف.
* لعن الله.
* التعليم الكاذب.
* استعمال اسم الله باطلًا.

* التملق لأجل منفعة شخصية.

* الألفاظ البذيئة.
* لعن الناس.
* التلاعب بالآخرين.
* الخداع.

4- كيف لعضو صغير مثل اللسان أن يؤذيني إلى هذا الحد، بل وقد يقودني إلى الهلاك؟
*لأن اللسان يوجِّه حياة الإنسان أكثر بكثير مما يوحي به حجمه.
*ويقدِّم لنا القديس يعقوب ثلاثة أمثلة رائعة:
أ- لجام الحصان:
قطعة صغيرة تقود حصانًا قويًا.
(يعقوب 3: 3).
ب- دفة السفينة:
دفة صغيرة توجه سفينة ضخمة.
(يعقوب 3: 4).
ج- شرارة صغيرة:
شرارة واحدة قد تحرق غابة بأكملها.
(يعقوب 3: 5–6).
*وبالمثل، فإن كلمة واحدة قد:
* تهدم زواجًا،
* وتقسم كنيسة،
* وتفسد صداقة،
* وتحطم نفسية طفل،
* وتشوه سمعة إنسان،
* أو تنشر تعليمًا خاطئًا.
*وفي المقابل، فإن كلمة واحدة قد تشجع، وتشفي، وتعزي، وتقود إنسانًا إلى المسيح.
*لذلك يقول سفر الأمثال:
«الْمَوْتُ وَالْحَيَاةُ فِي يَدِ اللِّسَانِ.»
(أمثال 18: 21).
*فاللسان لا يدين الإنسان لأنه عضو صغير، بل لأنه يكشف قلبًا قد ابتعد عن الله. والاستمرار في الكلام الخاطئ دون توبة هو جزء من حياة ترفض عمل نعمة الله المُغيِّرة.

5- كيف أخلص من خطايا اللسان؟
*البداية تكون بقلب جديد:
أ- اطلب من المسيح أن ينقي قلبك.
«قَلْبًا نَقِيًّا اخْلُقْ فِيَّ يَا اللهُ.»(مز51: 10).
ب- صلِّ كل يوم:
«يَا رَبُّ، اجْعَلْ لِفَمِي حَارِسًا.»
(مزمور 141: 3).
ج- تكلم أقل:
كثير من الخطايا تختفي عندما يقل الكلام.
د- اقرأ الكتاب المقدس يوميًا:
فكلما امتلأ قلبك بكلمة الله، امتلأ لسانك بالنعمة.
هـ- ابتعد عن النميمة:
اترك أي حديث يسيء إلى الآخرين أو يهينهم.
و- بارك بدلًا من أن تلعن:
«بَارِكُوا لاَعِنِيكُمْ.»
(لوقا 6: 28).
ز- استخدم لسانك لتمجيد الله:
اجعل كلماتك:
* تشجع،
* وتعزي،
* وتعلِّم،
* وتصلي،
* وتسامح،
* وتشكر،
* وتسبِّح،
* وتبني الآخرين.
«لاَ تَخْرُجْ كَلِمَةٌ رَدِيَّةٌ مِنْ أَفْوَاهِكُمْ، بَلْ كُلُّ مَا كَانَ صَالِحًا لِلْبُنْيَانِ حَسَبَ الْحَاجَةِ.»
(أفسس 4: 29).

*الاستخدام المسيحي للسان:
بدلًا من أن تستخدم لسانك لكي:
* تكذب،
* تنم،
* تدين،
* تتذمر،
* تنتقد،
* تجرح،
* تتفاخر،
*استخدمه لكي:
* تسبِّح الله،
* وتصلي،
* وتعلِّم الحق،
* وتشجع المنكسرين،
* وتعزي المتألمين،
* وتنطق بالسلام،
* وتبارك الآخرين،
* وتشهد للمسيح،
* وتشكر الله دائمًا.
*وكما يقول القديس يعقوب الرسول:
«مِنَ الْفَمِ الْوَاحِدِ تَخْرُجُ الْبَرَكَةُ وَاللَّعْنَةُ. لاَ يَجِبُ يَا إِخْوَتِي أَنْ تَكُونَ هذِهِ الأُمُورُ هكَذَا.» (يعقوب 3: 10).
*ولتكن صلاتنا الدائمة هي صلاة المرتل:
«لِتَكُنْ أَقْوَالُ فَمِي وَفِكْرُ قَلْبِي مَرْضِيَّةً أَمَامَكَ، يَا رَبُّ، صَخْرَتِي وَوَلِيِّي.»
(مزمور 19: 14).
*فعندما يملك المسيح على قلوبنا، تصبح كلماتنا انعكاسًا لمحبته وحقه ونعمته، وتتحول ألسنتنا من أدوات للأذى إلى أدوات للبركة.
