12/06/2026

+The Church, the Priest, the Monk:
1. To What Extent Should a Christian person Love or Be Attached to a Parish Priest or a Monk-Priest?

*A Christian should:
* Love his priest sincerely.
* Respect him as a spiritual father.
* Pray for him.
* Learn from his teaching.
* Benefit from his pastoral care.
* Appreciate his sacrifices and service.
*Saint Paul wrote:
“Esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake.”
(1 Thessalonians 5:13).
*However, our attachment must always be:
*Christ first — priest second.

*The priest is a guide to Christ, not a replacement for Christ.
*As Saint John the Baptist said:
“He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30).

*A healthy spiritual relationship helps people become attached to Christ, the Holy Scriptures, the Sacraments, and the Church.
*An unhealthy attachment makes people dependent on a particular person.

*The priest is a servant of the altar; Christ is the Master of the altar.

2. How Should a Person Feel or Behave If the Priest or Monk Leaves?
*It is natural to feel:
* Sadness.
* A sense of loss.
* Missing his guidance.
* Gratitude for his service.
*Even Saint Paul’s departure caused tears among the believers:
“They all wept freely, and fell on Paul’s neck and kissed him.” (Acts 20:37).

+There is nothing wrong with loving a spiritual father and missing him.
*However, the Christian response should be:
* Thank God for the blessings received through him.
* Pray for his new ministry or return to his monastery.
* Welcome and support the new priest.
* Continue faithfully in the Church.
*The departure of a priest should not become a spiritual crisis.

3. Should They Leave the Church?
*Absolutely not:
We come to church because:
* Christ is there.
* The Holy Eucharist is there.
* The Sacraments are there.
* Salvation is there.
*We do not come merely because a particular priest is there.

*A famous saying among the Fathers is:
“We belong to Christ, not to personalities.”

*If someone stops attending church because a priest left, this may indicate that his attachment had shifted from Christ to a person.

*The Church existed before that priest arrived and will continue after he leaves.

4. Should They Become Upset with God? *No.
*Instead they should trust God’s providence.

*Often God allows changes for reasons we cannot immediately understand.
*The same God who sent that priest is able to send another servant.
*Sometimes God uses such moments to teach us:
* Spiritual maturity.
* Dependence on Him.
* Obedience.
* Faith rather than emotional attachment.
*The believer should pray:
“Lord, thank You for the years of blessing through Your servant. Help me continue to follow You wherever You lead.”

5. Should They Become Angry with Church Authority?
*Not ordinarily.
*The Church’s bishops and authorities have responsibilities that ordinary people often do not see.
*A monk may be transferred because:
* His monastery needs him.
* Church regulations require it.
* Another area needs service.
* His spiritual life requires a return to monastic life.
* The bishop judges that a change is beneficial.

+ The faithful may respectfully express their love and appreciation, but anger, rebellion, division, or hostility toward Church authority is not the Christian way.
*Saint Paul teaches:
“Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive.”
(Hebrews 13:17).
*And our Lord Himself was:
“Obedient to the point of death.” (Philippians 2:8).

+ A Balanced Christian Attitude:
*A mature Christian should say:
“I thank God for this priest who served us faithfully. I love him and will continue praying for him. I will miss him greatly. But my faith is in Christ, my membership is in the Church, my salvation is through the Lord, and I will continue worshipping, communing, confessing, and serving faithfully wherever the Church places me.”

*The true spiritual father does not want people attached to himself; *he wants them attached to Christ.
*If, after many years of service, people follow Christ more closely, then his ministry has succeeded. *If they leave the Church because he leaves, then something in the relationship has become unbalanced.

📖 “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
(1 Corinthians 3:11).

*من الطبيعي أن يشعر الإنسان بـ:
* الحزن.
* الإحساس بالفقد.
* الاشتياق إلى إرشاده وتعليمه.
* الامتنان لخدمته وتعبه.
*حتى إن رحيل القديس بولس الرسول جعل المؤمنين يبكون:

*بل ينبغي أن يثقوا في عناية الله وتدبيره.
*فكثيرًا ما يسمح الله بتغييرات لا نفهم أسبابها في حينها.
*والإله الذي أرسل ذلك الكاهن قادر أيضًا أن يرسل خادمًا آخر.
*وأحيانًا يستخدم الله هذه المواقف ليعلمنا:
* النضج الروحي.
* الاتكال عليه وحده.
* الطاعة.
* الإيمان بدلًا من التعلق العاطفي بالأشخاص.
*ولذلك يمكن للمؤمن أن يصلي قائلًا:

+ The Teens Open Day on Saturday 25/4/26: The Annual Event:

*With the blessings of Our Gracious Lord Jesus Christ and St Shenouda, we had a blessed and enriching Teens Day which was held at the Monastery, bringing together over 350 teenagers from across Sydney.

*The theme of the day:
“The Hope That Is in You” *(Evangelism) guided every aspect of the program.

*It encouraged the teens to reflect on the living hope they carry as Christians and how this hope is expressed in their daily lives.

*The day featured a series of practical and engaging workshops:

1- One session focused on why we should evangelise, helping the teens understand that sharing Christ is not an obligation, but a natural response to experiencing Jesus Christ.

2- Another workshop invited participants to write down why they are Christian, drawing from their own personal encounters with God.

3- In the third workshop they got the chance to share their testimony with others in the group, giving them confidence to speak about Christ in a simple and authentic manner.

*Beyond the workshops, the day was marked by a joyful spirit of fellowship.

*During lunch and dessert, the teens had the opportunity to connect with one another, as well as spend time with the Priests and the Monks.

*We extend our sincere gratitude to all the Priests who attended with their youth groups and supported their teens in being part of this day.

*Their presence and care played an important role in making the event both impactful and memorable.

*Glory be to God for a day filled with hope, encouragement, and a renewed desire in the hearts of our youth to live and share their faith.

Regarding the New Monks Complex Building:
1- Due to the growing Demand of the candidates who wish to join the Monastery, we see the Necessity to Build a New Monks Complex to accommodate the new Comers.

2- This Building will be very Simple and consist of 12 Cells and will be somehow adjacent to the existing Monks Building.
*PS: The estimated cost 2Millions.

3- I find this new Monks Building is more essential and urgent at the moment than building a Church, and so I will give it first priority to build and postpone the Church for a while, since we cannot afford financially to build both buildings at once.

4- Your Prayers and your Financial Support will be very much needed and appreciated.

5- Please find attached some Photos of the Structure and the Plan of the New Monks Complex Building.
*PS: We are very grateful and thankful to the Architect Mr Ramez Guirguis. God bless him.
*Once we finish with the Final Construction Plans and the Council Regulations, we will start, God willing, early next year 2026.

06/10/2025

1. The Significance of the Council of Nicaea (325 AD):
*The First Ecumenical Council at Nicaea was one of the most important milestones in Christian history. It was convened by Emperor Constantine the Great in 325 AD, in the city of Nicaea (modern-day İznik, Turkey).

*Its main significance:
• Defense of the True Faith: The council was called primarily to address the heresy of Arius, a presbyter from Alexandria, who taught that the Son of God was not equal to the Father, but a created being.
• Affirmation of Christ’s Divinity: The council declared clearly that Jesus Christ is “of one essence (homoousios) with the Father”, fully God and not a creature. This preserved the truth of the Incarnation and our salvation.
• The Nicene Creed: The council formulated the Creed of Faith, which is still recited in every Divine Liturgy. It begins with:
“We believe in one God, God the Father the Pantocrator…”
This Creed became the foundation of Christian orthodoxy.
• Unity of the Church: It was the first gathering of bishops from all over the Christian world, showing the unity of the Body of Christ (318 Bishops).
• Canons and Order: The council also set down important canons for church discipline, order, and the calculation of the Feast of Pascha.

2. The Role of St. Athanasius at Nicaea:
*St. Athanasius, though a young deacon at the time, played a pivotal role in defending the faith of the Church:
• Champion of Orthodoxy: Serving as secretary to his Patriarch, Pope Alexander of Alexandria, Athanasius stood firmly against Arius, presenting theological arguments rooted in Scripture and Apostolic tradition.
• Voice of Truth: His clarity and zeal in proclaiming that the Son is eternal and divine earned him the title “Pillar of Orthodoxy.”
• Endurance after the Council: After Nicaea, Arians tried many times to overturn the council’s decisions. Athanasius, later as Patriarch of Alexandria, endured five exiles for defending the Nicene Faith. His famous statement, “Athanasius against the world” (Athanasius contra mundum), shows his courage and steadfastness.
• Through his writings—especially On the Incarnation—he laid the theological foundation for understanding how Christ’s full divinity and full humanity are essential for our salvation.

3. The Role of Coptic Orthodox Christians Today

As heirs of the same Church that St. Athanasius defended, our role today is to continue living and witnessing the Nicene faith:
• Guard the Orthodox Faith: Just as St. Athanasius defended against Arianism, we must be watchful against modern distortions of the faith—whether relativism, secularism, or false teachings.
• Live the Creed: The Nicene Creed is not only a declaration of belief but a way of life. Every time we say “We believe…” in the Liturgy, we commit to live by it in holiness.
• Be Ready to Witness: In a world that often doubts or denies Christ’s divinity, we are called to proclaim that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
• Unity in Orthodoxy: Like the bishops at Nicaea, we must strive for unity in faith and love, especially in the face of divisions.
• Courage in Faith: St. Athanasius’ courage is a model for us. Even if the world opposes us, we must remain faithful to Christ without compromise.

✨ In summary:
• The Council of Nicaea safeguarded the truth that Christ is fully God, ensuring our salvation.
• St. Athanasius, though young, became the fearless defender of this truth, enduring exile and persecution.
• We, as Coptic Orthodox Christians today, are called to live, defend, and proclaim this same Orthodox faith with courage, love, and holiness.

🌿 Advice to Year 12 Students Entering University:

1. A New Beginning, Not an End:

Finishing high school is not the end of your spiritual and academic journey, but the beginning of a new stage of life. University will open many doors—intellectual, social, and spiritual. Approach it with gratitude to God, humility, and eagerness to grow.

2. Stay Rooted in Christ:

The environment at university will be wide, diverse, and often filled with philosophies, lifestyles, and ideologies that challenge your faith. This is not new—St. Paul faced Athens with all its philosophies, yet he proclaimed Christ (Acts 17).
• Prayer is your anchor: Keep your daily prayers, Bible reading, and participation in the Church sacraments.
• Keep your confession father close: Regular confession is vital in this stage, as it keeps the heart pure and the conscience sharp.
• Sunday Liturgy is non-negotiable: No matter how busy, put the Eucharist at the center of your week.

3. Choose Your Friends Wisely:

“Do not be deceived: evil company corrupts good habits.” (1 Cor. 15:33)
• Surround yourself with friends who respect your faith and values.
• Join the Orthodox Christian fellowship at university (if available) or stay connected to your church youth group.
• Respect everyone, but know where to draw the line when values are compromised.

4. Guard Your Purity and Mind:

The university environment can tempt you to compromise.
• Purity of heart and body: Treat relationships with maturity. Don’t rush into unhealthy attachments.
• Intellectual purity: When faced with challenging philosophies, don’t panic. Ask questions, read, and seek guidance. Remember that Truth is Christ Himself (John 14:6), and no philosophy can destroy His light.

5. Balance Study and Spiritual Life:

Yes, your studies are important, but never let them replace God.
• Use your time wisely—discipline in study will save you from unnecessary stress.
• Remember, success without Christ is failure, but success with Him is a blessing for you and for others.

6. Be a Light in Your University:

Christ said, “You are the light of the world” (Matt. 5:14).
• Live your faith quietly but powerfully, through honesty, kindness, humility, and integrity.
• When asked about your faith, answer with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15).

7. Practical Reminders:
• Keep a small prayer (e.g., the Jesus Prayer) on your lips during stressful times.
• Find a spiritual book or the sayings of the saints to read alongside your academic studies.
• Whenever you feel lost, remember: “What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Mark 8:36).

✨ Final Word:
University is a time of growth, challenge, and opportunity. If you enter it with Christ, you will come out not only with a degree but with wisdom, maturity, and deeper faith.
*Let your years there shape you into a strong Christian leader for your generation.

Regarding the Teens Day:
Sharing some wonderful service news which took place at St Shenouda’s Monastry.

• The Teens Day:

On Saturday 10/5/25.

*At St Shenouda Monastery Sydney.

1- The Annual Gathering of our beautiful Teenagers from our Coptic Orthodox Churches in Sydney, on the second Saturday straight after the Feast of the Resurrection.

2- We really enjoyed the company of about 300 young Teenagers of Years 9,10,11 only.

3- The Theme of the Day was:
“You don’t have to be a Monk or a Nun, to live like One”.

4- We had a great day with them, starting by the Holy Liturgy, then Lunch, and then dividing them into three Workshops.

5- We used the Sub-Topics of the Workshops: The Three Vows of the Monastic Life:
Poverty, Chastity and Obedience.

6- At the Workshops they discussed these issues in more details:
A- Workshop one about:
Poverty= Living Simply in a Materialistic World.

B- Workshop Two about:
Chastity= Authentic Love & Healthy Boundaries.

C- Workshop Three about:
Obedience= Freedom through Surrender.

7- We are very grateful to Our Gracious Lord Jesus Christ, for blessing the whole Day and they all left in Peace back to their Churches/Homes Safely.

8- We sincerely, thank all the Priests who attended the whole day with their Kids.

*We thank all the Servants who led the Workshops, the Servants who cooked the delicious Lunch, and we thank all the Bus Drivers who brought the Kids to the Monastery.

*Many thanks to All, and God bless each and everyone. Amen.

+ Today on Wednesday 28 th of May 1980, I arrived in Melbourne to start my Ministry as a Parish Priest at the Church of A A Michael & St Anthony in Melbourne, to replace Sayedna Anba Asheia, when he left to Egypt to be ordained as a Bishop for Tahta.
1- So today it is my 45th Anniversary of my Ministry as a Parish Priest called then:
Fr Daniel El Antouny.
2- I am so grateful to my Gracious Lord Jesus Christ who supported me since that time until now.
3- I really enjoyed every little moment there, not forgetting a very important thing then, serving with my Beloved Fathers and Brothers at that time: V Rev Fr Victor Rofael and V Rev Fr Tadros Sharobeem and then V Rev Fr Mina Ibrahim in Melbourne, whom I really enjoyed serving with them All.
4- I served at most of the Churches, about 20 Churches Australia wide, until I was asked by H H Baba Shenouda to go and look after the Monastery of St Shenouda in Sydney since 2006 AD.
5- I do have beautiful memories in every State and in every Church I served in it.
6- I can see now the Growth and the fruits of every Church in all Areas.
7- I do pray from the depth of my heart for Both of my Fathers and Brothers:HG Bishop Anba Suriel and HG Bishop Anba Danieel for working tirelessly in establishing the two Dioceses.
8- I do pray for All the Clergies and the Servants of both Dioceses, to be more Vigilant, Faithful and more Fruitful.
9- I love to see all our Youth to be attached to the Church and know that there is:No Real Love, no Real Joy, no Real peace, no Real Success and no Real Contentment away from the Church, ie ( being with God, involved in the Church Prayers and Rituals).

10- I do need your prayers now, in my old age, so I can finish my Strive in peace and purity of Mind and Heart. Amen.

Yours Sincerely,
Bishop Anba Daniel.
