Today's feast remembers Jesuits who gave their lives across four different persecutions, and one of them has a story worth knowing.

This feast remembers Jesuits martyred on prison ships in revolutionary France, in secret ministry at the start of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, and under communist persecution in Albania in the 1940s. Different centuries, different regimes, one continuous witness for Our Lord.

Jesuit martyrs, pray for us.

September is the Month dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady

Simeon foretold that "a sword will pierce your own soul too." Mary lived that prophecy to the end, and the Church honours her sorrows in September, keeping her feast on September 15.
The Seven Sorrows trace her whole journey beside Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows was carried through the centuries by the Servite Order, and given voice in the Stabat Mater, emphasising that Mary stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross, never turning away.

Our Lady of Sorrows reminds us that in every grief we carry, she stands with us and leads us to her Son.

Holy Mother, pierce me through; in my heart, each wound renewed with my Saviour crucified.

Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.
