An Invitation to the Journey: Ash Wednesday 2026

On the Mid North Coast, we understand the harsh reality of the Australian landscape. We know the smell of smoke and the sight of a horizon reduced to ash. This Ash Wednesday, February 18th, we invite you to step away from the noise and find a sacred space of reflection amidst the dust.

What is Ash Wednesday? This ancient tradition centers on our mortality and the confession of our need for God. Just as bushfires strip and break open the land so that new life may emerge, the sign of ash signifies our own need to be broken open. It reminds us that "from dust we come and to dust we return"
The Purpose of Our Gathering Lent is an invitation to slow down, to consider, and to discover. We begin this holy season by acknowledging our need for repentance and for the mercy found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. By being "marked"—tagged as Christ’s own—we reimagine our relationship with God and prepare for the new life of the Easter mystery.

A Message of Solidarity and Local Support from Port Macquarie Uniting Church

Dear friends,

Sunday night’s horrific attack on the Chanukah by the Sea celebrations at Bondi Beach strikes deep into the heart of our lives as Australians and forces us all to confront the grave evil of antisemitism in our midst.

In solidarity with our Jewish community, and all victims and survivors, we offer a safe place for prayer and reflection.

Our Local Safe Space for Grief, Prayer, and Peace

Port Macquarie Uniting Church welcomes the local community to a safe, quiet space to reflect, share grief, and pray.

We are opening our doors:

Dates: Wednesday 17th December – Monday 22nd December
Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm Daily
We will be present if you wish to speak with someone.
We invite you to light a candle to honour:

The victims who tragically lost their lives.
The survivors enduring this trauma.
The brave first responders and individuals who acted to protect the lives of others.
A Call to Reflection

Wherever you are in the next few days, I encourage you to join us in taking some time out to reflect and pray. Let us think on what changes we need to make individually and communally to heal this great wrong. May we all know the light of goodness and hope in our lives.
