Every Sunday, before most of us arrive, there’s already a team at work turning a school gym into a space where we can gather as church — and then packing it all away again afterwards.

“Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful.”

The book of Joel reminds us that God calls his people to return to him because he is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He promises to restore his people and pour out his Spirit.

It’s a passage that holds together the seriousness of turning back to God and the generosity of the God who receives us.
