Ever wondered what life at the seminary looks like? 👀

Formation for the priesthood happens in many places, including out in our parishes, meeting, praying with and serving the communities seminarians may one day be called to accompany.

Over the past few weeks, our seminarians from Charles Seminary have been out and about across Perth.

📍 St Mary MacKillop Parish, Ballajura
The seminarians joined Fr Vinh D**g PP and the parish community on a special weekend celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation. They also shared plenty of joy (and song!) alongside the Dominican Sisters at their fundraising charity lunch.

📍 Our Lady’s Assumption Parish, Dianella
The seminarians joined Fr Kenneth and parishioners for the celebration of the Eucharist and a fiesta and agape lunch for the parish’s patronal feast of Our Lady’s Assumption.

These visits are just one small glimpse into seminary life - opportunities to experience parish life, build relationships with our Catholic communities and continue discerning what it means to serve God and His people.

Things may have been a little quieter at Perth Vocations since National Vocations Awareness Week… but the work of discernment continues. 🙏

Behind the scenes, Fr Joe and our office have been busy supporting men who are discerning a call to the priesthood and applying to enter St Charles Seminary in 2027.

Entering the seminary is not simply about filling out an application. It is a thoughtful process of prayer, conversation, discernment and preparation as each man explores where God may be calling him and takes another step towards a possible vocation to the priesthood.

As Fr Joe works through the 2027 applications and accompanies these men on their journey, we invite you to keep them in your prayers - for courage, openness and trust as they discern God’s call.

And please pray for Fr Joe and all those who accompany and support them along the way. 🙏

What a night! 💙✨ 14 exhibitors. 88 attendees. One wonderful evening of faith, connection and conversation.

Our 2026 Vocations Expo brought together individuals and families from across Perth to meet religious communities, seminarians, Catholic organisations and ministries — and discover the many different ways we can live our faith and make a gift of ourselves in service to others.

From new conversations and connections to plenty of food, music, activities and laughter, it was wonderful to see so many people come together with curiosity and open hearts.

A huge thank you to our 14 exhibitors, everyone who helped make the evening possible, and of course, the everyone who joined us. 🙏

A beautiful day. 💛🙏 and a few first glimpses from yesterday's Women’s Discernment Retreat Day, where women from across Perth came together to take time away from the busyness of life to pray, reflect, listen and connect.

A very special thank you to our wonderful Perth Vocations Committee members - Rosa, Sr Chitra and Catherine - whose vision, care and many hours of work helped bring today together. We are incredibly grateful for all you have done to create such a welcoming and meaningful day for the women who joined us. 💐

And thank you to our speakers, volunteers and everyone who participated and generously shared in the day. And a BIG thank you to Trinity College for their generous support of our inaugural retreat day.

🙏 Happy 7th Anniversary of Ordination ✨

Today we give thanks to God for Fr Liam Ryan and Fr Mark Rucci, who celebrate seven years of priestly ministry since their ordination by Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB at St Mary's Cathedral, Perth WA, on 16 August 2019.

For seven years, they have faithfully answered Christ's call, serving His people with generosity, compassion and hope.

✝️ Fr Liam Ryan continues his ministry in the Catholic Diocese of Broome as Priest at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral Parish.

✝️ Fr Mark Rucci serves as Parish Administrator of St Brigid's, Northbridge, and Bencubbin, while also ministering as Prison Chaplain.

As we celebrate this milestone, we thank God for their generous witness and the countless ways they have shared Christ's love through their ministry.

Please join us in praying for Fr Liam and Fr Mark, asking the Lord to continue blessing and strengthening them as they serve His Church and His people. And please extend your prayers to everyone discerning their vocations.
