Sustainable September In September this year our church here in South Lake has decided to highlight environmental concerns through the four Sundays in September which are sometimes called ‘Sustainable September’. In short God invites us to step up to Care for Creation of which we are a part. We each make choices. Our living can become more sustainable. God rejoices in the Creation. It is all very good, including us! Multiple species co-exist in biodiverse abundance. Everything works together and supports complex life. God shares the beauty and joy with us, entrusts, and invites us to care for the creation of which we are part. The overall theme for Sustainable September is “We are responsible for looking after God’s earth.” To help us do this we will be focussing on one specific aspect of caring for the environment. Each of these themes will be used by the kid’s church to create repurposed items, to be conscious of not wasting things and of what we throw away. As well, replanting of seedlings and planting of seeds will show in a practical way that God’s creation is continually being renewed.
The four themes are: RENEW, REUSE, REDUCE, RECYCLE

To guide us we have two verses from Genesis where we are told about God’s Creation.
Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.’ Genesis 1:26
The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it. Genesis 2:15

THE WEST AUSTRALIAN Thursday April 27th
OP SHOP SHOCK OR NEW NORM
Op shops were once considered cheap as chips and good for a bargain or two.
But it appears prices have risen so sharply they now rival those of high-street boutiques and, in reality, shopping at Kmart is cheaper.
The West Australian visited 10 charity shops across the metropolitan regions to see if these prices existed here, too.
The standard cost of a pre-loved outfit was an unwelcome shock.
For Australians in need, the local charity shop had always been a source of affordable clothes, shoes, furniture and household items and 10 years ago you would have been hard pressed to find a T-shirt priced over $5, let alone a pair of shoes over $10.
But times have changed as charitable stores try to find a balance between keeping prices affordable for those on lower incomes while also bringing in revenue to remain viable.
In various Salvos, Australian Red Cross, Vinnies and Good Sammy stores across Perth, women’s shirts were being sold for $30, dresses for more than $90 and men’s trousers for up to $60.
NOT AT ST JAMES OP SHOP WE STILL SELL GOOD QUALITY CLEAN CLOTHES FROM $2.00 AS WELL AS LOTS OF OTHER ITEMS FROM AS LITTLE AS 50C. CALL IN TO SEE US ON FRIDAYS FROM 9.00AM TO 4.00PM AND THE 1ST & 3RD SATURDAYS 10.00AM TO 1.00PM AND GRAB A BARGAIN
