Aligning Our Steps with God's Will

Every day we face choices, ranging from small daily routines to major life-changing decisions. How do we know if the choices we make truly align with God's heart? Today’s Scripture reading provides a very clear roadmap.

Proverbs 16:20 reminds us, "Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord."The very first key to making the right choice is submitting ourselves to the authority of God's Word. Wise decisions are not driven by fleeting emotions or human logic alone; they are built on eternal truth. When we place our absolute trust in God, we surrender control and allow Him to direct our future.

In 2 Samuel, David testifies how walking faithfully in God's ways ultimately brings victory. Following God's will requires consistent integrity and obedience. It often demands that we choose the narrow path—one of honesty, humility, and sacrifice—rather than taking shortcuts that offer instant gain but compromise our character.

Furthermore, in Acts 2, we witness the powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. Living a Spirit-led life is crucial when making decisions. The Holy Spirit grants us wisdom, inner peace, and clarity whenever we stand at a crossroads. Decisions that align with God's will always bring deep peace (just like the prayer for peace found in Psalm 122) and build up a healthy community rather than causing division.

Today, bring all your plans and struggles to God in prayer. Lay down your ego and personal ambition. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your heart so that every decision you make—whether in your career, family, or studies—will always glorify His name and bring blessings to those around you.

🏋️‍♂️ Enjoying the Spiritual "Training" Process

Daily Devotional – 3 June 2026
Verses:

"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." (Proverbs 16:18)
"I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?" (Psalm 121:1)

Perth Indonesian Church (PIC) is not just a gathering place; it is a training centre for the human spirit.
In this training arena, every word of God and every process we encounter is designed to strengthen our muscles of faith.

However, the greatest challenge in any training is often spiritual pride.
"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." (Proverbs 16:18)

When we feel like we are already strong or become bored with our worship routine, pride begins to creep in. This makes our spirit numb and weak.

The secret to enduring and winning the spiritual battle is to find joy in the training itself.

Spiritual training is not always comfortable. It demands discipline, persistent prayer, and submission. Yet, truly blessed people are those who are willing and able to enjoy every step of the process.

They do not view sermons, prayers, or ministry as a transactional burden, but rather as an intimate space to meet with the Father.

Like the psalmist who lifts his eyes to the mountains (Psalm 121:1), we realise that our own strength is limited. In this training ground, we learn not to rely on ourselves.

When we feel exhausted and "weak", that is exactly where God's power works most perfectly.
When we enjoy the process of being educated, corrected, and shaped by His word, our dry spirits will be ignited once again.

PIC Church has provided an abundance of extraordinary spiritual food.

It would be a great shame to let all these blessings pass us by. Let us come with a hungry and humble heart. Enjoy every spiritual training session this week with joy, because this is where your faith is being built into a powerful weapon of victory.
God bless you!

Gratitude in the Process, Productivity through Wisdom

Today's Bible reading invites us to align our hearts and actions before God through four vital truths:

* 2 Samuel 19:10b - 20:13: Tells of David's restored throne amid conflict and Sheba's rebellion. Behind the chaos, God's hand still guides the reconciliation.
* John 21:1-25: Shows Jesus restoring Peter after his failure. Through a miraculous catch of fish, Jesus meets his physical needs and recommissions him.
* Psalm 120:1-7: A cry in distress when facing an environment full of lies. The psalmist chooses to call upon the Lord for faithful help.
* Proverbs 16:16-17: Emphasises that gaining wisdom is worth far more than gold or silver. True wisdom guards our path away from evil.

Living the Word: Gratitude and Productivity

Gratitude is not a response to perfect circumstances, but an acknowledgment of God's faithfulness. Just as David’s throne was restored and Peter was forgiven, we are reminded that past failures do not cancel our future. When facing a stressful work environment or negative talk, give thanks because God is your refuge. Gratitude keeps our hearts at peace and anchored in His love.

A grateful heart must produce a productive life. Once restored, Peter did not stay idle; he was commanded to shepherd Jesus' sheep. Christian productivity is not just about chasing material wealth, but working with divine wisdom. Proverbs reminds us that a godly character and an honest path are worth far more than financial gain.

Today, let us work diligently, bear good fruit, and maintain integrity in the workplace. Use your talents to be a blessing to others. When we combine gratitude for God's goodness with productivity built on His wisdom, our lives will glorify His name.

Shalom,...

Relying on the True Guarantee of Salvation

Life often confronts us with intense conflict and uncertainty. In 2 Samuel, we witness the devastating fracture of David’s family due to Absalom's rebellion. The climax of this tragedy—Absalom's death—brought profound grief to David. This tragic story proves that relying on human strength, clever strategies, or earthly thrones ultimately leads to disappointment and ruin. Humans frequently seek security in worldly authorities. As Proverbs 16 states, a king’s wrath is a messenger of death, yet his favorable face brings life. However, earthly rulers remain unpredictable, unstable, and deeply limited.
In the midst of worldly chaos, Psalm 119 reminds us of God's great mercy. The psalmist cries out for life according to God's word while surrounded by persecutors. True salvation never comes from our own strength. It flows entirely from the unchanging, steadfast love of the Lord.
This assurance of salvation is perfectly fulfilled in John 20. The empty tomb stands as living proof that death has been defeated. Jesus Christ rose to give eternal life to everyone who believes. Through His appearances to Mary Magdalene and the disciples, Jesus transformed deep fear into joy and stubborn doubt into firm faith. He is the King of kings whose radiant face genuinely reflects the source of eternal life.
Jesus is our only reliable savior. When life’s problems overwhelm you and the path ahead grows dark, never place your hope in personal strength or false worldly guarantees. Come to Jesus, acknowledge your limitations, and surrender completely to His power. His cross and resurrection guarantee that our lives are eternally secure in His hands. Make Jesus your ultimate foundation, for in Him alone is true salvation.

Worship: Reviving the Spirit in the Presence of God

True worship is not just a religious routine; it is the essential way to keep our spirits alive and connected to the source of our salvation. Today’s Scripture reading reminds us why coming before God is an absolute necessity that we must never ignore.

In John 19:23-42, we see the ultimate climax of salvation as Jesus gives His life on the cross. Christ opened a new way for us to approach God's throne of grace at any time. When we worship, we celebrate this victory of the cross. We lay down our egos at His feet and adore the One who redeemed us from death. Without consistent worship, we can easily forget the high price He paid for us.

Worship is also a vital moment to realign our life’s compass with His truth. Psalm 119:132-155 describes a deep longing to turn to God and be strengthened by His promises. In the fellowship of worship, God’s Word is preached to light up the dark corners of our hearts. Through praise and prayer, our spirits are refreshed and strengthened to face the exhausting challenges of the world.

Furthermore, worship shields our faith from fear. Through the story in 2 Samuel 17, we learn that God’s sovereignty can overturn the evil plans of men. When we worship, we shift our focus from the size of our problems to the greatness of God's power. We are reminded that our future is secure in His hands.

Finally, Proverbs 16:12-13 confirms that a righteous life pleases the Lord. True worship produces a holy and honest character in our daily lives. Let us commit to always setting aside our best time to worship, because that is where our spirits find true life. Amen.

Today’s Bible reflection focuses on faithfulness, integrity, and true justice amidst life's storms and worldly uncertainties that test our faith.

The Contrast of Betrayal and Divine Truth

In the book of 2 Samuel, we see King David’s deep sorrow over the brutal betrayal by his own son, Absalom. David chose to retreat and leave Jerusalem with heavy grief, tears, and deep humility. Even when Shimei harshly cursed him, David chose not to retaliate with physical violence. Instead, he surrendered completely to the absolute sovereignty of God.
In contrast to this political betrayal, the Gospel of John records the tragic story of Simon Peter denying Jesus, alongside the steadfastness of Jesus Christ before Pilate. Amidst the injustice of a corrupt Roman trial, Jesus remained firm in testifying to divine truth because His kingdom is not of this world. Humans may betray us, judge us unfairly, or abandon us, but God's divine truth can never be shaken by any human conspiracy.

Living with Undivided Hearts and Integrity

Furthermore, Psalm 119 reminds us of the importance of having a wholehearted, sincere, and undivided heart before the holy God. The psalmist explicitly states his hatred for double-minded people, while placing great love and hope in God's word. God’s word is a safe protective shield and a spiritual light that gives understanding to the simple. In a world full of falsehood, God's word provides moral stability and certain guidance.
This is reinforced by the book of Proverbs, which states that just balances and scales belong to the Lord. Every decision made by leaders and all daily business practices must reflect pure integrity of faith.

The Call to Action
Through all of today’s scripture readings, we are called to choose spiritual faithfulness over temporary worldly comfort. When life circumstances feel unfair, stay grounded in His word. Do not let your heart be divided. Let us live honestly, surrender to God's justice, and faithfully follow Jesus, our true King of Truth.

Keeping Your Heart Amidst Storms and Temptation

Scripture Readings:
* 2 Samuel 13:1–39
* John 17:1–26
* Psalm 119:81–95
* Proverbs 16:6–7

Human life is often a battlefield between destructive worldly desires and the holy calling of the Spirit. Today’s Scripture readings show a sharp contrast between the ruin caused by sin, the strength found in God's word, and the divine protection that flows from a heart that fears the Lord.

In 2 Samuel 13, we witness the tragic story of Amnon, Tamar, and Absalom. Amnon’s uncontrolled lust led him to commit a terrible act against his own sister, Tamar. This sin triggered a chain reaction of bitterness and revenge, eventually leading Absalom to murder Amnon. This tragedy within King David's family serves as a harsh warning to us all: giving in to sinful passions only leads to ruin, shame, and death.

How can we escape such a cycle of sin and destruction? Proverbs 16:6–7 provides the answer. The writer of Proverbs highlights that "through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided." A holy reverence for God is our primary shield against temptation. Remarkably, the next verse promises that when a person’s ways please the Lord, He makes even their enemies live at peace with them.

When the world around us feels overwhelming, exhausting, or filled with people who mean us harm, we can look to the psalmist in Psalm 119:81–95. Even though his soul fainted while waiting for salvation and he felt like a wineskin in the smoke, the psalmist chose not to forget God's decrees. He knew that God's word is eternal and stands firm in the heavens.

Most of all, we have great hope through Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer in John 17. Before facing the cross, Jesus prayed specifically for His disciples—including us today. Jesus did not ask for us to be taken out of the world, but rather that we be protected from the evil one and sanctified by the truth; His word is truth.

Today, let us commit to living lives that please Him. When wrong desires or bitterness begin to knock on the door of our hearts—as they did with Amnon and Absalom—let us remember Jesus’ prayer for our holiness. Lean on His eternal word and live with a healthy fear of the Lord, so that our life's path may lead to true peace. Amen.

God’s Sovereignty Amid Human Weakness

God’s sovereignty amid human weakness is the common thread connecting all of today’s Scripture readings. Through His Word, we are reminded that God is in complete control of history, justice, character building, and our ultimate future.

Summary of Today's Word

* 2 Samuel 12:1-31: Tells of the prophet Nathan’s sharp rebuke of King King David for his adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah. This story shows that while God is deeply forgiving, sin still carries real consequences that discipline our lives.
* John 16:1-33: Contains Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit as the Helper who will guide His disciples into all truth. This section closes with a powerful word of spiritual encouragement: in this world, humans face persecution, but Christ has overcome the world.
* Psalm 119:71-80: The psalmist makes the radical admission that his suffering and affliction were actually good for him. This bitter experience became an effective spiritual tool that forced him to learn and obey God’s decrees.
* Proverbs 16:4-5: Asserts God’s absolute sovereignty, stating that the Lord makes everything for its own specific purpose. This verse also issues a stern warning that everyone who is proud in heart is detestable to Him and will surely be punished.

Reflection and Application
Life often feels like a paradox. We want to walk in success, but sudden failure catches us off guard due to our own negligence—just like David’s fall. We long for comfort, yet the reality of life often hands us intense suffering and pressure.

Through today’s word, we are challenged to change how we view God's sovereignty. God never creates chaos, but He is able to use every event—even the most painful ones—to bring about spiritual good and shape our character. Suffering is not a sign that God has abandoned us; it is often His loving intervention to keep our feet from wandering further toward destruction.

The ultimate key to enduring this turbulent world is humility and obedience. Pride only positions us as opponents of God. Conversely, when we humble ourselves, confess our sins, and accept His discipline, the Holy Spirit works to grant us a divine peace that surpasses all understanding. Commit your heart today to walk with the Holy Spirit, for in Him, the victory of faith is fully guaranteed. Amen.

Abiding in Grace and His Word
Today’s Bible reading focuses on one central theme: relying completely on God’s grace and living attached to His Word. When we align our hearts with His will, our lives will produce eternal fruit.

* The Vine: John 15:1-27
* Grace: 2 Sam. 9:1-11 (Receiving undeserved kindness)
* Obedience: Ps. 119 / Prov. 16 (Committing your way to the Lord)

1. Restoring Grace
In 2 Sam. 9:1-11, King David looks for any remaining descendants of Saul. He does this not for revenge, but to show kindness. Mephiboseth was disabled in both feet and felt completely unworthy. Despite this, David raises him up to eat at the king’s table continuously. This is a vivid picture of grace. We are sinful and helpless, yet Christ lifts us up to be His friends, restores us, and gives us a place at His banquet.

2. Abiding to Bear Fruit
How do we respond to this grace? John 15:1-27 gives us the answer: "Abide in Me, and I in you." As branches, we can do nothing without the Vine. Abiding in Christ means building an intimate relationship through prayer and meditating on His Word. This closeness purifies our character so we can reflect His love to others.

3. Surrendering Every Step
The practical response to a life connected to God is found in Prov. 16:1-3. Humans make plans, but the final outcome comes from the Lord. When we commit our actions to the LORD, our plans succeed. This total surrender is strengthened by the commitment in Ps. 119:53-70 to keep His statutes, even during suffering or ridicule.

Let us live today with the full awareness that we exist by His grace. Let us stay connected to Christ, do His will, and place all our future plans into His sovereign hands.
