REFLECTION ON 1ST READING COMING SUNDAY (Catholic Mass)

In the Acts of the Apostles, St Peter quoting David :
"I saw the Lord before me always,
for with him at my right hand nothing can shake me.
So my heart was glad
and my tongue cried out with joy:
my body, too, will rest in the hope
that you will not abandon my soul to Hades
nor allow your holy one to experience corruption.
You have made known the way of life to me,
you will fill me with gladness through your presence."

Yes, it was about the Risen Lord but the verse also points that Presence which is always going before us, the attracting Love which is always ahead in the timeline of our own history. It gladdens our hearts; if we can learn to rest in and be filled by it. What inexplicable Hope sustains us even in the midst of such uncertain times. This indeed is Good News!

Extracts from James Finley recent podcast (Turning to the Mystics series"

"Being sustained in the miracle of a single breath."

"That which is essential never imposes itself. That which is unessential constantly imposes itself. But by a higher order wisdom of the awakened heart, we can give ourselves over to that which is essential in the midst of that which is unessential."

"Find your practice which allows you to become more grounded."

It seems to me that the deeper invitation as we journey through this very unfamiliar, and often scary, times under the cloud of CoVid19 is to find ways to help us see God in every moment of it. The reality is that, no matter what we do, some of the darker times ahead may and can overwhelm us. James Finley puts it in another way; the paradoxical truth that "God protects us from nothing but inexplicably sustains us in everything". How can we learn to trust there is light even in the darkness.
