The pre-ordination retreat is in full swing in Christchurch, New Zealand, for Bishop-elect, Susan Wallace. A complete blessing to be with her and Dr Jenny Te Paa Daniel, Archbishop Marinez Bassotto from the Diocese of Amazonia and Archdeacon Ruihana Paenga of Tikanga Māori. Wonderful women of God!

Hundreds of people were in St George’s Cathedral this morning and hundreds more online for the State Funeral honouring and celebrating the life of World War II veteran and WA’s longest-serving member of Parliament, the Hon Bill Grayden AM.

His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM and Premier Roger Cook joined family, friends, former and current members of Parliament, as well as members of the community to pay tribute to a Western Australian who gave his life to service in different forms.

The Right Revd Kate Wilmot, Assistant Bishop of Perth, who officiated and preached at the State Funeral, said Mr Grayden had been a contributor all his life and, as well as acknowledging his achievements and giving thanks for his life, she recognised the great sense of loss felt by Mr Grayden’s family and, especially today, offered our good wishes, love and support, and prayers.

With thanks to Government House for these pictures.

June Oscar is a remarkable woman and powerful advocate for First Nations social justice. Speaking as part of the Reconciliation Week program in WA last night, June was generous, challenging, compelling and, at times, funny.

One of her strongest messages that has stayed with me was an answer to a question about this week.

She said that reconciliation is a movement. It’s something we commit to.

Don’t wait for Reconciliation Week (to take action). We can have a week (celebrating reconciliation) when we bring all the wonderful things we do every other week of the year.

That’s good food for thought - and action.

Today is National Sorry Day. This day commemorates the anniversary of the First Sorry Day in 1998, following the ‘Bringing Them Home’ Report, and acknowledges the great injustice and ongoing pain experienced by the stolen generations.

The theme or call of Sorry Day 2026 is 'From Sorry to Action". A reminder that words, on their own, are not enough.

Today especially, we pray this prayer written by the Aboriginal and Islander Commission National Council of Churches in Australia 2002.

"Almighty and loving God, you who created ALL people in your image, lead us to seek your compassion as we listen to the stories of our past. You gave your only Son, Jesus, who died and rose again so that sins will be forgiven.

"We place before you the pain and anguish of dispossession of land, language, lore, culture and family kinship that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have experienced. We live in faith that all people will rise from the depths of despair and hopelessness. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families have endured the pain and loss of loved ones, through the separation of children from their families.

"We are sorry and ask God’s forgiveness.

"Touch the hearts of the broken, homeless and inflicted and heal their spirits. In your mercy and compassion walk with us as we continue our journey of healing to create a future that is just and equitable.

"Lord, you are our hope. Amen"

Pictures from the Church of the Resurrection Swanbourne last Sunday.

The very happy occasion was the blessing of the chapel and icon of St Michael and St Oswald in honour of the two congregations that now form the Parish of Swanbourne–Mt Claremont.
