“We gather as neighbours, as people of faith, and as members of one shared community.”

Latter-day Saints across Australia joined Muslim communities during Ramadan for interfaith Iftar gatherings—building friendships, sharing meals and strengthening understanding.

In Sydney, members also opened a meetinghouse for Eid al-Fitr prayer, providing space for worship and connection.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Hobart, Australia area participated in the city’s annual Christmas pageant. Their main goal was to bring the spirit of Christmas to the pageant by presenting a nativity scene, but they also wanted to raise awareness of the Giving Machine coming to Hobart in December.

The Church’s entry in the pageant involved a nativity scene and a group of approximately 40 members wearing red ‘Light the World Giving Machine’ shirts and displaying Giving Machine banners. The float was warmly received by the 30-35 thousand onlookers, who first saw waving children dressed in nativity clothes while Christmas carols played in the background.

An unexpected blessing was that their participation was awarded The Best Christmas Theme entry, by the City of Hobart.

Participants shared that it was a joyful experience for all involved and they plan to do it again next year.

The members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Fairfield region of Sydney, Australia, recently held a Mental Health Walkathon at Parramatta Park. The event brought together community members, leaders, and supporters for an event dedicated to honouring 13-year-old Mahonlai, a beloved young member of the community whose passing deeply touched many. The walkathon served as a tribute to his memory; to bring awareness to youth su***de, and to strengthen support for youth mental health services.

The Apostle Peter wrote that disciples of Jesus Christ should “. . . be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous.” (1 Peter 3:8) When it comes to mental health matters, let us try to remember the importance of holding on to hope, for in our Saviour, there is always hope.

The event was attended by Manly Sea Eagles Head Coach Anthony Seibold, and several rugby league players, whose generosity and encouragement were warmly received. The players were featured in a video welcoming the community to the walk.

Councillor Sreeni Pillamarri of Parramatta Council, and Councillor Dr. Diane Coleman of Cumberland Council, also joined the walk, offering messages of solidarity and commitment to improving mental health support across Western Sydney.

A key address was delivered by Rachelle Hadchiti, Clinical and Operations Manager at Headspace Parramatta, whose words highlighted the urgent need for accessible, youth-focused mental health care.

Through the collective efforts of participants, the walkathon successfully raised over $2000, which will go directly to Headspace Parramatta to support their free, confidential counselling and mental health services for young people.

As the community observed Mental Health Month, leaders encouraged everyone to continue prioritising mental wellbeing, supporting one another, and accessing professional help, when needed.

Congregation of Young Single Adults (YSA) Created in Melbourne

On Sunday the 16th of November 2025, a Young Single Adult (YSA) Ward (congregation) was created for the first time in Melbourne, Australia for people aged 18-35. The Jells Park YSA Ward will meet in the Maroondah Stake Centre, located adjacent to the Melbourne Australia Temple on Cathies Lane in Wantirna South, starting at 2:00pm each Sunday.

A congregation of over 240 joined to sustain Adam Simon as Bishop (congregation leader). Bishop Simon drew from a talk given at the October 2025 General Conference by Elder Gerrit W, Gong, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and asked that in this YSA Ward, that “no one sits alone”, but with friends and the Saviour, to guide us.

President Grant Logie, the Melbourne, Australia Maroondah Stake President (regional leader), invited the congregation to “come and build Zion together, as you learn for yourself where Heavenly Father wants you to be, and who He wants you to be.”

During a question-and-answer session after the services, President Logie further offered counsel to “stand as a witness of Christ” as found in Mosiah 18; he said, “the gospel of Jesus Christ is like a participation event, meaning the more you engage, the more you learn.”

A peer group panel, facilitated by President Lucas Donald, Second Counsellor in the stake presidency; YSA Leaders, and the Stake Relief Society President, Jacqui Brooks, (leader of the women’s organization within the Church), helped by answering questions and encouraging the YSA:

A) “To come and meet together often, and learn of Christ” (Page Andrew)

B) “To come as you are and recognize that we are all unique individuals and known by the Lord” (Tia Henderson)

C) “That as we strive to reach out, strive to grow, and strive to be an example of the Saviour, we’ll find joy” (Sam Lovelock)

The Jells Park YSA Ward includes the eastern stakes of Melbourne, which covers Maroondah, Heidelberg, Narre Warren, Gippsland, and Bayside Stakes, and represents a culturally diverse group of YSA.

During the closing remarks, President Adam Berry (First Counsellor in the stake presidency), invited all to “look at each other through the Saviour’s eyes and feel His love”, and Bishop Simon encouraged all to “come and find joy in serving each other.”

Why Australia Needs Giving Machines This Christmas

Christmas is known as the season of giving – but for many Aussies, it’s also a time of struggle. With many Australians living in poverty, Christmas and summer holidays can be especially tough. That’s why Giving Machines are coming to Australia this Christmas. These special vending machines – sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – let you donate items like meals, hygiene kits, school supplies, and mental health support – all in under a minute. Every dollar goes directly to trusted local and national charities.

This year, Australians can make a difference right here at home.

Whether you’re Christian and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, or simply embracing the spirit of generosity, Giving Machines offer a meaningful way to give back and connect with your community. Many families say visiting a Giving Machine has become a favourite holiday tradition – a chance to teach children about compassion and service.

Australians Call Singing with The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square a Divine Opportunity

Alexandra Dalman, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, living in Adelaide, Australia, has the unique honour of being the first Australian selected to sing with the choir as part of the Global Participant program.

Established in 2023, this initiative brings together singers from around the world to unite their voices in worship. Over the next five years, Alexandra and 70 other international members will participate in the programme by singing with the choir in Salt Lake City during general conference.

Alexandra said, “This has been more than a musical opportunity – it is a spiritual calling. Being in the choir is all about developing relationships, vertically with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and horizontally with others.”

Two other Australians – Mellisa Gill and Aaron Anderson - are also part of the Global Participant Program. They will be singing with the choir in upcoming sessions of general conference.

Michelle Pollard, an Australian who now lives in Utah, has been a full-time member of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square for the last year.

Luke Howard, an Australian from Sydney, has lived in the United States since 1991. He was a full-time member of the choir for 15 years and continues to work with the choir on developing and arranging music.

Luke said, “My professional work is committed to understanding the powerful role that music can play in shaping not only a person’s cultural identity, but also their spiritual life. I saw with my experience in the choir, just how powerful that influence can be when great choral music is performed by dedicated singers whose offering is holy, complete, and from the heart.”

Missionaries Harness Social Media to Share Inspirational Messages

In the early days of Christianity, Jesus Christ told his disciples, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” (Matthew 28:19 – 20). And we read in the New Testament that Jesus’ disciples went throughout the world teaching and preaching repentance and baptism.

Shortly after The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organised in 1830, the first missionary assigned to go out and teach was Samuel Smith (Doctrine and Covenants Stories) . He would walk many kilometres each day and would stop at homes to teach anyone he could.

Today, disciples of Jesus Christ have multiple ways to share His gospel. In the Australia Melbourne Mission, one of the ways that missionaries share gospel messages with great success is through social media.

Paul and Nadene Thomas served as mission leaders for the Australia Melbourne Mission from July 2022 to June 2025. Shortly after starting their missionary service, they read an address given at Brigham Young University by Elder David A. Bednar, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, he said, “Social media channels are global tools that can personally and positively impact large numbers of individuals and families. . . What has been accomplished thus far in this dispensation communicating gospel messages through social media channels is a good beginning, but it is only a small trickle. . . I exhort you to sweep the earth with messages filled with righteousness and truth . . . and literally sweep the earth as with a flood.” As mission leaders, the Thomas’ felt inspired to use social media as a tool to share the gospel.

To start, the Thomas’ chose 10 – 12 missionaries who were highly effective in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and had experience with social media. They were asked to spend only 1-2 hours each day producing creative messages that would resonate with everyone and that would inspire, lift, and build hope.

The social media team began to share posts about Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, family history, the eternal nature of families, the Book of Mormon, belonging, community, healing, peace, love, and invitations to worship services.

Paul Thomas shared, “We applied faith, planning, goals, and prayer to find the right inspired messages to share and connect with people. We also made it a priority to respond to all requests immediately. If they did not acknowledge the first response, then we would continue to try until we spoke to the person who sent the request. The people who made

the request felt something special when they viewed the post and we wanted to help them learn more about the feelings they experienced.”

Tennison Lighthall, a missionary serving in Melbourne, said, “We are posting things that people want to hear. We are posting them to help people, and they respond to those messages. We are not doing it for ‘likes’ but we are doing it to genuinely help people.”

Hailey Brown, another missionary, said, “When people are going through hard things, they go on their phone to look for support. When they see messages about Jesus Christ and hope and love, they automatically feel that message of peace. It helps people recognise that no matter what they are going through in life, they are not alone. They have someone there who can help them every step of the way.”

The messages resonated with people, and the mission saw social media begin to move from a trickle to a flood as people wanted to learn more about Jesus Christ. Success came through these amazing young missionaries applying their gifts, talents, and love for Jesus Christ and all people.

Jayd and David, newly baptised members of the Church of Jesus Christ, were introduced to the Church when Jayd came across a simple story on social media that caught her attention in a way she could not explain. Something in her heart stirred and she felt a powerful desire to learn more. Not long after, Jayd and David began to meet with the missionaries to learn more about Jesus Christ and His restored Church.

Nadene Thomas said, “People matter more than anything else in this world. I now have a deeper understanding of what it means to mourn with those that mourn. I felt the power of loving people. We built our foundation upon love and when there is love there is unity in the entire mission. Whether you are talking about social media or regular [traditional] missionary work.”

Paul Thomas said, “The greatest success in social media came when we ministered in love, through Jesus Christ, one-by-one, and in the process, saw others experiencing great joy.”

On 30 August 2025, an International Peace Conference was held in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. The conference brought together speakers from various faiths to highlight the importance of the heart and soul in a culturally and religiously diverse community.

As part of the conference, Toowoomba City Mayor Geoff McDonald received the International Cities of Peace Award, on behalf of the city. Toowoomba is the 422nd city in the world to receive this award. As part of his acceptance speech, the City Mayor spoke of the importance of family, education, and respect.

Evelyn Ray, a representative of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Deputy Chair of the Toowoomba Interfaith Working Group, wrapped up the day beautifully by quoting President Russell M. Nelson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: “As followers of Jesus Christ, we should lead the way as peacemakers. As charity becomes part of our nature, we will lose the impulse to demean others. We will stop judging others. We will have charity for those from all walks of life.”

Over 600 young adult members aged 18-35 of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently attended a mini convention in Sydney, Australia. A particular highlight of the weekend was a day at the Sydney Australia Temple, a house of the Lord, which was staffed and attended by young adults that day.

A small group of young adult temple workers were assigned to turn the idea of a temple day into a reality. Altogether, 180 young adults attended the temple at the same time.

Elder Philip Barton, an Area Seventy for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said, “It was an incredible experience seeing young adult [temple workers] running their own session at the temple. We came up with the vision a year ago of having enough young adults serving as temple workers to run their own session and to see them respond to this opportunity was amazing.”

Ephraim, an attendee from Carlingford, said, “My experience in the temple was a good time for me to ponder and to reflect on my life choices. It was a good time for me to be still and focus my attention more on the Atonement of Jesus Christ. It really helped me to be more grateful for everything I have, especially the life that I have and all the experiences that help me grow and become closer [to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ].”

Emma, a young adult from Penrith, who helped organise the day, said, “The experience was incredibly unifying, and I could tangibly feel the strength of our generation.”
