St Declan’s Catholic Church

St Declan’s Catholic Church St Declan's is a Catholic parish in Penshurst. We seek to be joy-filled everyday disciples of Jesus whose mission is to bring the love of God to life in people.

We enjoy creating posts and stories that celebrate life, connection and love, and most of all, we want to encourage people to grow in relationship with God and live as Jesus' disciples. We would love to engage with you through comments but we ask that you do so with Christian love, charity and respect.

Last Sunday’s homily with Fr Chris 🙏🏻

When God says something is wrong, it’s not because He wants to restrict us — it’s because He knows what is good for us. ❤️

A reminder that not everything society calls “okay” is necessarily good in God’s eyes. Some sins may become popular, normalised, or accepted… but truth doesn’t change with popularity.

Lord, give us the courage to choose Your truth over the world’s approval. Listen to his full homily through our Youtube channel.

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, godfathers and father figures in our parish community. 💙

Today we give thanks for the love, guidance, strength and care you bring to your families and to those around you. May God bless you with wisdom, patience and a steadfast heart, and may the example of St Joseph continue to inspire you in your vocation of love and service.

We also offer a special thank you to our MGL priests, who are spiritual fathers to our parish community. Thank you for your faithful service, guidance, prayer and the many ways you walk alongside and care for us.

We hold in prayer too those for whom Father’s Day may be a difficult or tender day, and remember with gratitude the fathers who are no longer with us.

Wishing all our dads, father figures and spiritual fathers a very blessed and joyful Father’s Day. 🙏

St Joseph, pray for us.

🌍🌱 SEASON OF CREATION | HARVEST SHARING TABLE 🌱🌍
From 1 September to the Feast of St Francis of Assisi on 4 October, we join with communities around the world in prayerful celebration of the Season of Creation.

🍎🥕🌿 Earthcare – Fruits of the Earth Harvest Sharing Table 🌸

Once again this year, our Harvest Sharing Table is back! During the Season of Creation, parishioners with gardens are invited to bring along their fruit, vegetables, herbs or flowers to share with others.

Tables are set up in the foyers of St Declan’s and St Joseph’s, and everyone is welcome to gratefully give or take.

🌿 Take a moment to stop by each week, see what’s been shared, and celebrate the abundance and generosity of our earth and our parish community.

Give what you can. Take what you need. Share the harvest. 🌎💚

Fr Michael through Last Sunday’s Gospel reminded us of the foundation of our Catholic Church.

Jesus chose Peter as the rock of His Church and gave him the keys to the Kingdom, making him the first Pope. 🗝️⛪️

Our faith is rooted in Christ, handed down through the apostles, and continued through the Church today.

“On this rock I will build my Church.” 🙏🏻❤️

When God seems silent… keep praying. 🙏🏼

Last Sunday’s Gospel, Fr Josh gave us a beautiful reflection through the Canaanite woman — a woman who refused to give up.

From her, we learn faith that trusts, prayer that perseveres, humility that surrenders, and a heart that believes in God’s goodness even when we don’t understand His ways. ❤️

Sometimes, God may seem silent. But silence does not mean He is absent.

So, keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep knocking. Sit with God, be with God in those difficult moments🙏🏼

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.💙

Mary’s life reminds us where complete trust, love and fidelity to Christ ultimately lead — to the eternal joy of Heaven.

May her example encourage us to say “yes” to God with greater faith, courage and love each day.

Our Lady assumed into Heaven, pray for us. 🙏

Each year we baptise parents who have been able to do Alpha because we offer a safe and fun space for their children while they attend.

This is part of our radical welcome in action, and it is bearing fruit in transformed families.

By volunteering for Alpha Kids Club, you can contribute to this important mission.

THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – MASS OBLIGATIONS & MASS TIMES

This Saturday, 15 August, we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of only two Holy Days of Obligation in Australia in addition to every Sunday.

Because the Assumption falls on a Saturday this year, Catholics have two separate Mass obligations over the weekend:

One Mass for the Feast of the Assumption
One Mass for Sunday

These obligations are fulfilled by attending two separate Masses.

Please see the image for our Mass times and plan ahead for the weekend.

Last Sunday’s homily, Fr Michael took us to reflect that Jesus comes to us even in the middle of the storm. 🌊

Sometimes suffering is like fire 🔥 — painful, but also what helps our faith mature and grow stronger.

The situation may not change, but our faith can.
Jesus is there, even in the wind. Listen to his full homily through our Youtube channel.
