Arrupe Program

Arrupe Program In education and research,, it is important for us to understand how the Holy Spirit is working, moving and shaping those dimensions.

The Arrupe® Program is a ministry of the Australian Jesuit Province, and prepares students to become givers of the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Located in the heart of Melbourne's university precinct we use spirituality as our lens in the study of the theology, spiritual direction, supervision, leadership and Ignatian pedagogy. We recognise that there is a personal formative dimension to academic studies and research.

I cried to the Lord in my distress and He answered me!

Today we celebrate the feast day of Saint Monica of Hippo.

Let us take Saint Monica’s led and take courage from her perseverance and unwavering faith in praying without ceasing.

Saint Monica’s years of prayer, patience, fortitude, steadfast love and deep faith in God were all pivotal in the conversion of her bad-tempered husband and mother-in-law, and her rebellious child, Augustine.

Saint Monica is the patron of abuse victims; alcoholics; difficult marriages; conversion; homemakers; wives; mothers and widows.

St Monica, pray for us.

Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor

Like never before the signs of the times are clear - as human beings we need a change of heart, mind and behaviour. Let us respond to Pope Francis' call to an ecological conversion and an economic conversion. Let us continue to pray for justice, love and peace!

Pray for the earth (Pope Francis in Laudato Si)

All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognise that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day. Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace.

Hope you had a glorious day on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary!

Let us pray the Magnificat together. The Magnificat, also known as the Canticle of Mary or Ode of the Theotokos, in Christianity, the hymn of praise by Mary, the mother of Jesus, found in Luke 1:46–55. ... The Magnificat is sung each day at evening prayer, as well as in vespers, in religious houses and in those other churches where vespers is celebrated.

Wishing you the happiest Feast Day of St. Ignatius of Loyola!

Here is a prayer we are sharing with you.

A Prayer for the Feast of St. Ignatius:
St. Ignatius, teach us not to fear
The holy cannonballs that burst into our lives,
Blessedly interrupting our plans and priorities.
St. Ignatius, lead us with you
Into the cave at Manresa,
Where we may suffer
And yet emerge transformed.
St. Ignatius, let us sit beside you
On the banks of the Cardoner River,
And be awash, as you were, in revelation.
St. Ignatius, lock us with you
In a cell run by Inquisitors
And set alight in us your devotion to growth,
Even when met with distrust and disapproval.
St. Ignatius, send us out into the world
Like you did your first companions,
Making every moment a monastery
And finding God in all things.
Amen.

In commemorating, the Ignatian Year (May 2021 to July 2022), marking the 500th anniversary of the injury that Ignatius of Loyola received at Pamplona, sparking St Ignatius’ conversion — that fateful day when Ignatius the soldier, struck by a cannonball, began his transformation into Ignatius the pilgrim. In the first pilgrimage of its kind, Newman College and Magis Network Australia organised a ‘Camino’, a pilgrimage for young adults.

Matthew Pinson SJ (a Jesuit student) and Fr Sacha Bermudez-Goldman SJ accompanied seventeen young adults, walking 125km over six days (an average of 21km/day) from Gawler to Sevenhill. The pilgrimage route – followed the steps of the first Jesuits who arrived in Australia in 1848, who travelled on foot from Gawler through to Tanunda, Nuriootpa, Kapunda, Riverton, Auburn and finally to Sevenhill, where the Jesuits currently run a parish, a retreat centre and a winery.
