Stewards of Grace: Discovering and Deploying Your Gift | 1 Peter 4:10–11

What spiritual gift has God given you, and are you using it for His glory?

Every Christian has received spiritual gifts from the Holy Spirit—not for personal recognition, but to serve others, build up the church, and glorify God.

In this sermon from 1 Peter 4:10–11, we explore three important truths:

We are only stewards of God's gifts — Everything we have is given by His grace.

We must faithfully exercise our gifts — Using them to serve others through God's strength.

Our gifts are for God's glory alone — Not for personal praise, but to honour Jesus Christ.

Whether your gift is teaching, encouraging, giving, leading, or serving, God calls you to use it faithfully.

The question is not simply what gift you have, but how faithfully you are using it for God's glory.

🌿3–5 Oct | The Weekend That Was!🌿

What a blessed time away at our retreat with Pastor Eric C. Maliwat! We’re truly grateful for your presence and for sharing your wisdom and experience with us, Pastor - even beyond the retreat itself. Thank you for accommodating us despite the very short notice, and for your encouragement and for being such a blessing to our HCC family and the Villamins!

Ironically, we found ourselves needing rest and restoration even after the retreat! 😅 A timely reminder to slow down, take it easy, and not push ourselves too hard - or we might end up getting sick!

We hope you’re recovering well and feeling much better now, Pastor. After all, with our theme “Are You OK? Rest. Refocus. Be Restored,” we need to make sure you’re doing okay, too! 😊❤️

What truly matters in the Christian life: spiritual gifts, great knowledge, extraordinary faith, sacrificial service—or love?
In 1 Corinthians 12:31–13:13, the Apostle Paul points the church toward “the more excellent way.” Even the most remarkable spiritual gifts and acts of sacrifice amount to nothing when love is absent.

What are spiritual gifts, and why did Christ give them to His church? Are spiritual gifts primarily about personal ability, recognition, or individual ministry—or are they meant for something much bigger?

In Ephesians 4:11–16, Paul presents the church as a body being equipped, strengthened, and built together in Christ. The ascended and victorious Jesus gives gifts to His people so that the saints may be equipped for ministry and the whole body of Christ may grow toward unity, maturity, truth, and love.

In this sermon, “Built Together: Gifts, the Body, and the Building of the Church,” we explore four important truths:

The Source of the Gifts — the ascended, victorious Christ
The Foundation That Was Laid — the apostles and prophets
The Gifts That Remain — evangelists, pastor-teachers, and the ministry of the whole body
The Goal — a church that is grown up, grounded, and built together in love.

Christian ministry is not something performed only by pastors and church leaders. Christ gives leaders to equip the saints for the work of ministry. Every believer has a place in the body, and every part matters. As each member works properly, Christ causes His church to grow and build itself up in love.

The question, then, is not simply, “What is my spiritual gift?” but also: Am I using what Christ has given me to serve others and build His church? Am I being equipped—or merely entertained? Is my confidence grounded in the sufficient Word of God?

Rest • Refocus • Be Restored
Life can drain us. The pressures of work, visa, health, family responsibilities, and the constant demands of everyday life can leave us physically tired, mentally overwhelmed, and spiritually weary.

This retreat is an invitation to rest, refocus, and be restored. It is not about escaping or simply getting away from our responsibilities. Rather, it is about withdrawing for a time to Christ—stepping away from the noise and demands of life so that He may refresh our hearts, renew our minds, and restore our souls.

Jesus Himself called His disciples to “come away… to a quiet place and rest for a while” (Mark 6:31).

Jesus is the source of true rest and restoration. By His grace, we return to our families, work, church, and calling refreshed and ready to serve Him faithfully again.

Rest from the demands.
Refocus on Christ.
Be restored to serve.
