Thinking about trying church? Here's what a Sunday at Lifegate is like.

It's about an hour. We sing, pray, and hear from the Bible about Jesus, who still changes people's lives today. You don't need to know anything to come. Look for the Start Here desk and someone will help you find your way.

Kids have songs, stories, games and craft at Lifegate Kids, and teenagers get to have discussions with people their own age at Lifegate Youth. Every leader is trained and holds a Working With Children Check.

Afterwards, stay for morning tea. It's a chance to connect with people and find out more about growing in faith.

On Sunday, five young people were baptised and told everyone they're following Jesus.

Some of them shared their story first, in their own words.

If you've ever wondered what baptism actually is, it's that. A public "yes" to Jesus, in front of the people who will walk with you.

Ever notice your mind getting pulled in ten directions at once?

Replaying one conversation while you dread tomorrow, all in the same breath.

There is a word for that. The word behind "worry" in Matthew 6 carries the sense of being pulled apart: a divided mind, not a weak one. Not a vague feeling. A precise description of a state you already know.

Jesus does not shame it. He gives one reorientation. "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness." (Matthew 6:33) Fix a divided mind on one thing and the fracture starts to heal. Not because the problems vanish, but because your mind is no longer torn between them.

One step for today: when the worst case starts playing on repeat, pause and ask God one question. What would trusting You look like right here?

On Sunday at Padstow, church happened in pyjamas.

Our Kids team put on a Pyjamas and Pancakes morning: a ball pit out the front, and more pancakes than anyone thought to count.

Thank you to the team who were up early making batter.

Someone has to make the pancakes before church starts.

Yesterday that was this crew at Padstow, up early with the batter going before most of us were awake.

Thank you to the Kids team. The morning your kids will talk about all week does not assemble itself.

What if the reason you've never found peace is that you've been chasing the wrong thing?

In English, peace means the absence of conflict. No argument. The problem is gone. So we wait for peace to arrive after everything settles down, and it never quite does.

That isn't what the Bible means by it. The word is shalom, and it doesn't mean the absence of problems. It means wholeness. Nothing missing, nothing broken, right in the middle of them.

Jesus offers it as a gift. The night before he was crucified he told his friends: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives." (John 14:27) The world's peace comes when things cooperate. The peace Jesus offers doesn't wait for that.

One step for today: finish this sentence honestly. "When ___ finally settles down, then I'll have peace." Then ask God for wholeness before it does.
