Paddington Unitng Church (PUC) is a Christian parish mission that seeks to embody faith, inclusiveness, justice and creativity in our life and work. As well as fostering a community of Christian discipleship, the church runs a range of community programs including the Paddington Markets, Eastside Arts, Eddie Dixon Centre and the Paddington Children's Centre.

At Kinchela Boys Home, Uncle Richard used drawing to cope with the trauma of family separation and abuse. Art became a lifelong source of healing and a way to reconnect with his Aboriginal culture. He later earned a Fine Arts degree from Deakin University, and in 2008 his work was selected for Pope Benedict XVI’s visit during World Youth Day, while he was Artist in Residence at the Australian Museum.

Meet the Artist: Uncle Roger Jarrett

As part of the Coolamon Exhibition at Paddington Uniting Church, we’re honoured to introduce Uncle Roger Jarrett, a Gumbaynggirr man and survivor of the Stolen Generations.

Uncle Roger is a talented painter, carver, sculptor, storyteller, educator, cultural leader and writer. His work and leadership are grounded in culture, community, storytelling and the sharing of knowledge across generations.

He is a member of the Southern Gumbaynggirr Elders, a Board Member of Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC), and a founding member of Annecto’s NSW Aboriginal Arts Hub Steering Committee.

We’re grateful to share Uncle Roger’s work as part of the Coolamon Exhibition and invite you to experience the stories, culture and creativity represented in this exhibition.

Save The Date : Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation is proud to announce the revised date Friday 13 November for the launch of the Coolamon Arts Hub Exhibition at the Uniting Church Paddington , a culturally safe space for Survivors, families, and community to share stories and truth through art.

The Coolamon Arts Hub aims to elevate the voices of KBH Survivors, Descendants and Family Members through cultural activities, including art and artistic expression.

It supports established, mid-career and emerging Aboriginal artists to create, promote, exhibit and sell high quality, authentic Aboriginal art.

Coolamon Arts Hub provides Aboriginal artists from the KBH family, Stolen Generations community and community partners with:

• Opportunities to create, share and preserve their art and culture
• Professional support to produce, promote and market their artwork
• Opportunities to generate income from their visual arts practice
• Training, professional development and employment in the visual arts industry
• Opportunities to foster multigenerational learning and cross-cultural exchange.
