December 2020 marked 5 years of Kings on the Bellarine with our Ocean Grove office.

Five years ago Kings Funerals came together with Bellarine Memories to continue to serve the Bellarine community with our shared values of Dignity, Choice, Compassion, Guidance & Community. We’d like to thank the Bellarine families who have entrusted us now and into the future, along with the local community organisations we work with such as - Ocean Grove Football & Netball Club, Bellarine Community Register, Oakdene, Ocean Grove Bowls Club and many more.

Thank you also to the whole Kings team for your dedicated efforts providing services to families throughout this region with a special mention of Philip Christian who founded Bellarine Memories in 2005.

In 2021 we will be closing this FB page, so that we can better serve you from our Kings Funerals page with community events and entertainment, discussions and updates. We would love you to stay with us, by heading to the Kings page to follow us https://www.facebook.com/KingsFunerals

Good luck!

My mum and dad were very active in the community, as were my grandparents. It goes back generations; it’s part of our DNA.

MOTHER’S DAY HAMPER WINNER
Thank you to all who nominated a Bellarine Mum to win a hamper from The Dunes Cafe. It would be an impossible task to select a winner in any other way than a traditional ‘draw out of a hat’. You are all deserving of support, care, and wishes on this important day that celebrates the Mothers in our lives.

The Winner...
Congratulations to Jess Zanoni
(Nominated by Tricia Perry)

Please DM us your address by Thursday, May 7th for delivery of your prize; a delicious, fresh hamper from The Dunes café.

*Note, all deliveries must be local to the Bellarine Peninsula. We reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner if we do not receive address details by midnight Thursday, 7th May 2020, or the nominated winner is outside of the Bellarine Peninsula region. Any personal data relating to the winner or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party.

Win a beautiful hamper this Mother's Day. Simply tag a Bellarine Mum you think is wonderful in the comments below and they'll have a chance to be gifted a beautifully delicious hamper from The Dunes

During times like this, it’s more important than ever to reach out to all the women and mothers in our lives and support them as much as they support us.

Our winner will be picked at random on Wednesday 6th May and the prize will be delivered locally on Mother's Day.

The cancellation of traditional ANZAC Day services this year has been sad, but it has forced us to channel some of the ANZAC spirit of ingenuity as we think of new and different ways to mark this special occasion.

Below are some ways to honour defense personnel, past and present as shared by the RSL...

1. Light Up The Dawn
RSL Victoria are inviting you to stand at the end of your driveway, on your balcony or porch, or in your living room to remember all those who have served and sacrificed for this nation.

2. Plant Rosemary

3. Make a Rosemary Wreath

4. Bake ANZAC Biscuits

5. Help An Older Veteran

6. Donate to the ANZAC Appeal

7. Enjoy a Gunfire Breakfast

8. Video Call Your Loved Ones

9. Recite The Ode

10. Create Your Own Shrine

Did you know that one of the qualities the ANZACs were famous for was their ingenuity? We are calling on the ANZAC spirit of ingenuity to find a unique way to commemorate this year.

23/04/2020

Any other year, across the nation, RSL services would be held for the community to attend. A crowd would be gathering at the cenotaph in the park in Ocean Grove and Philip Christian, in his role as padre, would be participating in the dawn service of the Ocean Grove Barwon Heads sub-branch.

Faces would appear out of the gloom as the dawn breaks and it would be a moving time in tribute to the fallen and all who have served in all wars.

In our communities and families we can still be innovative and find ways to honour our servicemen and servicewomen.

"Everyone is living under difficult and stressful circumstances. The pandemic will be especially challenging for the bereaved. Having a clear coping plan is essential"

Grieving the loss of a loved one may be especially challenging right now.

Have you seen these signs? The Surf Coast Business Collective is currently collecting and promoting information on how local businesses have altered their business hours and services in their campaign. Within 7 days, their website has seen close to 2000 visits.

If you would like to share the love and applaud a business doing great things during this challenging time, please visit their page below

The www.buysurfcoast.com.au website is live.
The Surf Coast is OPEN FOR BUSINESS!
Buy Surf Coast recognises that many local businesses have made changes to adapt during the pandemic, including offering online and delivery options, and emphasises that they are still open for business.

It also provides them with a united platform via an online directory. We have many small businesses that really need support right now. This is being updated daily by Council staff. Details on how to request updates to the website are on the website.

Use the hashtags on your social media and lets spread the word to people about the services businesses are providing to people who are self-isolating at home.

The campaign also seeks to highlight how businesses are adapting by sharing good news stories about collaborations.

Sharing support, strengths, ideas, wins and motivation will be critical for our business community navigating these times.

Signs have gone up on every Council event board at the entrances to towns including Torquay, Anglesea, Aireys Inlet and Winchelsea. Lorne is coming soon (has to be fixed first).

We're planning promotions in the Surf Coast Times and other local papers from next week.

This has been a hectic four days for our Business Support Team and Information Centres to get a new website live but we did it.
