The Redemptorists Monastery Church is an inclusive, multicultural and welcoming institution rooted in the teachings of St Alphonsus. The Monastery is home to a community of Redemptorists, who seek to bring the Good News to the poor and most abandoned. People’s lives, dignity, rights, work and relationships matter to God, and matter to us. We extend a welcome to all to join us in worship and prayer

The faith that animates this image spans generations and cultures. An icon from Crete, written somewhere between the 13th and 15th centuries, now draws crowds to our Church. Understanding how it works, the grammar of its symbols, the logic of its composition, is part of understanding devotion. It can easily be dismissed by digital culture that feels such things lack a sophisticated visual language. But for others questioning the need for constant motion, hot takes and bite-sized advertisements, it may be worth sitting with.

A 500-year-old icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help holds layers of meaning. Discover how to read its symbols and why it still speaks today.
