May the Lord bless your life and your work for His Glory this whole year through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, St. Joseph and all the Legion Saints.

Our annual Summer School conference is coming up next month, 14-15 February at Magnificat House. This year as we're celebrating the 8th Centenary of the death of St Francis of Assisi, a Saint who's frequently referenced in our Handbook and loved by our Founder, Frank Duff, the theme of the Summer School is about St Francis.

We have an enticing array of speakers, as usual, with our regular speakers and new ones. One of them is Bridget Sakr, a Legion member from Sydney who endured a tragedy that was televised nation-wide a few years ago.

Attached is our Summer School program as well as a brief synopsis of some of the speakers. Everyone is welcome to attend.

See you at the Summer School.

The mystery of Christ’s human knowledge

Last month we reflected on the teaching of Pope Francis and Pope Pius XI on how our sins, committed even now, contributed to Christ’s agony, because individually foreseen by him; yet how our consolations offered even now contributed, because foreseen by him, to the comfort of soul he received even during his agony. In relation to that, we looked at the Church’s teaching on Christ, in his human soul, knowing each one of us during his life, agony and Passion. As we saw, this was in virtue of his having the beatific vision, the immediate knowledge of the Father.

We recall his own words: ‘No one knows the Son except the Father, just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.’ (Mt 11:27; cf. Lk 10:22; Jn 1:18; 6:46) Easily enough we might simply think, ‘Well, Jesus is God – of course he knew the Father.’ This is true, yet the complete truth has some more layers.

Jesus, in his life, agony and Passion, knew and loved each one of us

Continuing to look at Pope Francis’ final encyclical, Dilexit Nos [DN] – ‘On the Human and Divine Love of the Heart of Jesus Christ’ – we take up his reflections on the devotion of consoling Our Lord’s Sacred Heart, wounded by our sins.

He explores this devotion in an extended section of Dilexit Nos (‘The Devotion of Consolation’, nn. 151-163), drawing especially on Pope Pius XI’s 1928 Encyclical Miserentissimus Redemptor ‘On Reparation to the Sacred Heart’. ‘It is fitting’, Pope Francis writes, ‘to recover one particular aspect of the spirituality that has accompanied devotion to the heart of Christ, namely, the interior desire to offer consolation to that heart…the desire often felt in the hearts of the faithful who lovingly contemplate the mystery of Christ’s passion and experience it as a mystery which is not only recollected but becomes present to us by grace, or better, allows us to be mystically present at the moment of our redemption. If we truly love the Lord, how could we not desire to console him?’ (DN 152)

Acies 2025 "The Acies is the great central annual function of the Legion, so that it is necessary to stress the importance of attendance on the part of every member. The essential idea of the Legion, upon which all else is built, is that of working in union with and in dependence on Mary,...

Dear legionaries and Spiritual Directors,

As many of you are aware, the Senatus Jubilee Pilgrimage to France, Ireland and Italy is taking place from 2nd June until 4th July this year, for a total of 33 days. Whilst a small number of legionaries have signed up I'm aware that many more legionaries found the itinerary attractive and very much wanted to participate.

The pilgrims have been preparing themselves spiritually by praying daily the designated prayers of each day in the attached file and will continue doing so until their return in July.

Of your charity I would like to request all legionaries under the umbrella of the Senatus in Australia and in the Islands to also pray these prayers daily from today until all the pilgrims return in July.

We legionaries are united to each other not only through our Baptism and the Sacrament of the Eucharist but also in our daily recitation of the Catena which binds us together spiritually. We will be praying for all legionaries, active and auxiliary, senior and junior, at all the holy places we visit. As Senatus President I will be carrying all of you spiritually with me, praying for your intentions, praying for our growth in holiness and in apostleship, and praying for us to permit God to mould us into the saints He longs for us to become.

I'm asking Presidents and other officers to please make copies of the attached flyer and distribute them to the legionaries in your councils and praesidia. I would like every legionary to have a copy of these prayers, and through our union in Christ to feel as if he/she will also be taking part in this pilgrimage.

In union of prayers through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary,

Sr Caroline Fernandez
