Pope Leo XIV has appointed Bishop Anthony Randazzo, until now Bishop of Broken Bay and Apostolic Administrator of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross in Australia, as Prefect of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts, with the personal title of Archbishop.

The Holy Father announced the appointment on Monday evening. Archbishop Randazzo has served as the Bishop of the Diocese of Broken Bay for the past six and a half years, and will take up his role in the Roman Curia when he moves to the Vatican in three months. Until that time he will be the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Broken Bay.

The Dicastery for Legislative Texts serves the Roman Pontiff in promoting and safeguarding the proper understanding, interpretation, and application of canon law across the universal Church. Its responsibilities extend to both the Latin Church and the Eastern Catholic Churches, ensuring that ecclesiastical laws are applied with fidelity, clarity, and juridical precision.

As Prefect, Archbishop Randazzo will oversee the Dicastery’s work in formulating authentic interpretations of universal Church law, offering authoritative clarifications on juridical questions, and assisting in the development and refinement of canonical legislation. He will also guide collaboration with other dicasteries, episcopal conferences, and canonists worldwide to ensure coherence and integrity in the Church’s legal framework.

“I am profoundly grateful to Pope Leo for the confidence and trust he has placed in me,” Archbishop Randazzo, 59 and a canon law graduate of the Pontifical Gregorian University, said.

We beseech thee, O Lord, pour thy grace into our hearts: that, as we have known the Incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ by the message of an Angel; so by his Cross and Passion we may be brought unto the glory of his Resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Our Lady, pray for us!

Tomorrow, seminarian Matthew French will be Admitted as a Candidate for Holy Orders, at the Vigil Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, Waitara.

The Admission to Candidacy for Holy Orders is the moment when a seminarian publicly declares his commitment to pursue ordination.

During the same Mass, seminarian Victor Atuhura will be instituted to the Ministries of Lector and Acolyte.

As a Diocese we keep both these men in our prayers as they take further steps towards ordination to the priesthood.

The theme for the International Eucharistic Congress, Sydney 2028 (Eucharist28) is “This is My Body, Given for You.”

It’s a simple but powerful invitation to reflect on a love that is freely given, and to ask how we might live that same spirit of generosity and self-giving in our everyday lives.

As the journey towards 2028 begins, we’re inviting all of the faithful in Sydney to join us at eucharist28.org

Our Lady of Guadalupe: Secrets Every Catholic Must Know

Why the 1531 Apparition Still Changes the World Today

---

Our Lady of Guadalupe is one of the most extraordinary manifestations of God’s mercy in history. More than a cultural symbol of Mexico, she is the Patroness of the Americas, Empress of the Philippines, and the Star of the New Evangelization. Yet many Catholics do not realize how much Heaven revealed in this apparition and why it matters today more than ever.

Here are the secrets every Catholic must know about Our Lady of Guadalupe.

---

1. The Tilma Image Is Scientifically Inexplicable

The miraculous image on Juan Diego’s tilma has baffled scientists for centuries:

The cactus-fiber cloth should have disintegrated in 20–30 years, yet it remains intact after nearly 500 years, unaffected by humidity, candle smoke, or earthquakes.

There is no brushstroke, the image is not painted, dyed, or printed.

Under high magnification, the eyes of the Blessed Virgin display human reflections, including the figures of Juan Diego, the bishop, and others present at the moment the tilma was unfurled.

This is not a work of human hands but a message from Heaven.

---

2. The Image Spoke to the Aztecs in Their Own Symbols

Mary appears as a mestiza woman, wearing traditional Aztec symbolism:

The black maternity belt shows she is pregnant carrying Jesus Himself.

Her cloak of stars reveals she comes from Heaven.

She stands atop the moon and dragon-serpent deity, showing victory over false gods and the demonic practices of the time.

Her hands are folded in prayer, showing she is not a goddess, but a mother interceding for her children.

She brought the Gospel not through force, but through love.

---

3. Millions Converted Literally Overnight

Before the apparition, Aztec culture was drenched in human sacrifice. Evangelization was slow and resisted.

Then Our Lady appeared.

In just a few years, over 9 million people converted to the Catholic faith. This remains the largest mass conversion in human history and it happened without violence, coercion, or war.

It was the power of a Mother bringing her children home.

---

4. Her Mission Was Mercy, Healing, and Life

Mary’s very first words to Juan Diego were filled with tenderness:

“Am I not here, I who am your Mother?”

She came to end fear, despair, and death and to bring:

✔️Reconciliation between Spaniards and native peoples

✔️Healing for the oppressed and wounded

✔️Hope to a culture trapped in darkness

✔️Protection for the vulnerable

Her presence transformed a civilization from within.

---

5. The Tilma’s Colors and Details Reveal Hidden Theology

Modern imaging reveals remarkable layers:

🌹The stars reflect the exact sky configuration over Mexico in December 1531.

🌹Her mantle’s turquoise color was reserved for Aztec nobility showing she is Queen.

🌹Her tunic’s rose color symbolizes the dawn—the arrival of Christ, the Sun of Justice.

🌹The four-petaled flower (Nahui Ollin) over her womb is the symbol for the true God.

The tilma is both an icon and a catechism.

---

6. The Virgin Chose a Humble Messenger

Juan Diego was:

-Poor
-Uneducated
-Of indigenous background
-A widower grieving his wife

And yet Heaven chose him. His humility made him worthy of the greatest mission of the 16th century.

This reminds us: God exalts the lowly.

---

7. Guadalupe Continues to Work Miracles Today

Conversions, healings, vocations, deliverance from evil, all continue through her intercession. The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City receives 20+ million pilgrims yearly, more than any shrine on earth.

Her message is not locked in the past. She is alive, active, and working now.

---

8. Guadalupe Is the Marian Apparition for Our Times

Her message is perfectly suited to modern struggles:

Against abortion: She is the pregnant Mother of Life.

Against despair: She is the Mother who says “Do not be troubled.”

Against division: She reconciled an entire nation.

For evangelization: She leads millions back to Jesus.

For the family: She consoles, protects, and restores.

She is the Mother we need in a wounded world.

---

9. Her Message to You Today

Our Lady of Guadalupe still whispers the same words she spoke to Juan Diego on the Hill of Tepeyac:

“Listen, my little one. Let nothing disturb you.
Do not fear any illness, trouble, or sorrow.
Am I not here, I who am your Mother?”

This is the heart of Guadalupe:
Mercy. Tenderness. Protection. Love.

She leads us not to herself, but to Jesus, her Son and our Savior.

A Short Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe

O Our Lady of Guadalupe,
Mother of the Americas and Mother of Life,
cover me with your mantle of protection.
Heal the wounds of my heart,
lead me away from sin,
and bring me always to Jesus, your Son.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us. Amen.

The cause for the beatification of Servant of God Eileen O’Connor, known as the ‘Little Mother,’ has taken an important step forward.

In October 2024, Fr. Anthony Robbie formally presented to the Roman authorities at the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints the boxes containing all the documentation collected over four years during the diocesan inquiry.

Now, this information will undergo a thorough examination to assess the merits of Eileen's cause and to determine whether she is worthy of beatification. Ultimately, the final decision rests with the Holy Father.

It is with profound joy that I share with you the news that Pope Leo XIV has formally recognised the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Dr Sr Mary Glowrey JMJ, daughter of Victoria and missionary doctor in India. As of 21 November 2025, she now bears the title: Venerable Mary of the Sacred Heart Glowrey.

This significant step in her cause for canonisation makes her only the second Australian, after St Mary of the Cross MacKillop to be accorded this honour. Born in Birregurra in 1887, Mary Glowrey excelled academically, graduating from the University of Melbourne as a medical doctor.

She was a pioneer among women in medicine before discerning a call to serve in India. For 37 years she offered medical care, compassion, and dignity to the most vulnerable – particularly women and children, and founded what is now India’s largest non-government health network, the Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI), which continues to serve millions today.

Venerable Mary’s cause was initiated in India, supported by her religious congregation, the Society of Jesus Mary Joseph (JMJ), and kept alive in Australia by her family and by the Catholic Women’s League of Victoria and Wagga Wagga. This recognition is a moment of grace for both our nations, and our Church.

Her life teaches us that holiness can be found in generous service, professional excellence, courageous faith, and deep tenderness toward those most in need.

The next step toward her beatification will require the Church’s approval of a recognised miracle attributed to her intercession. I therefore encourage every parish, school, household, and community across Melbourne to entrust intentions to her and to pray for her ongoing cause.

Further information can be found on the Archdiocesan website: www.melbournecatholic.org/maryglowrey

May Venerable Mary of the Sacred Heart help us to walk more closely with Christ, to recognise Him in every person, and to live lives of generous service.

Venerable Mary of the Sacred Heart Glowrey, pray for us.
