In October, the concert Organ Fireworks will possibly knock your socks off - or at least the socks of the two performers, Director of Music Anthony Hunt, and former Cathedral Organist Josh van Konkelenberg, as they vie for control of this beast of a musical instrument.

Two organists on the same organ bench is a complex thing to witness - four hands and four feet - but double the fun and double the music!

What an extraordinary joy to have two sold-out concerts of Handel’s Messiah, gloriously played by Adelaide Baroque, with extraordinary choral work from the St Peter’s Cathedral Consort, sublime singing from our four first class soloists, Jessica Dean, Sally-Anne Russell, Andrew Goodwin and Pelham Andrews, led with drama and inspiration by Anthony Hunt.

For many, Handel’s Messiah is a concert-going highlight of the year; for others, Handel’s Messiah is almost a pilgrimage, a special sort of service where the word of God is brought to life in surprising and moving ways.

The Music Foundation is proud to support a Cathedral brimming with music, and audiences and congregations who love music, in its mission of supporting music at St Peter’s Cathedral. The highly skilled professional music enjoyed on stage often begins with an 8-year-old chorister learning their first notes, and this is the most succinct expression of the mission of the Music Foundation; that without the latter there may no longer be the former.

More music to round out the year - don’t miss our Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols, with Choir Organ & Brass at 7pm tonight.
