STOP PRAYING THE ROSARY DURING MASS, HERE’S WHY😱🤔
______________
One of my lovely students once asked me,
“Father, is it good to pray the Rosary during Mass?”
At first glance, it may look Holy, after all, the Rosary is a powerful prayer, one of the greatest devotions in the Church.
But let’s discover something that will surprise you…
✝️The Mass Is the Highest Form of Prayer
The Holy Mass is not one prayer among many, it is the highest and greatest form of worship on earth.
When the priest celebrates Mass, heaven and earth unite.
The angels kneel in adoration.
The saints join in worship.
Christ Himself offers His Body and Blood to the Father for our salvation.
At that moment, we are standing at Calvary, before the Cross, where Jesus is offering Himself again, not in pain, but in love.
So, during Mass, we are not simply “saying prayers.”
We are participating in the one eternal sacrifice of Christ.
✝️ The Rosary Is Beautiful, But It’s Not the Mass
The Rosary is a beautiful and powerful devotion, it helps us meditate on the life of Jesus through the eyes of Mary.
But it is a private devotion, not a liturgical prayer.
During Mass, the Church calls us to focus entirely on what is happening at the Altar, to listen to the readings, to respond to the prayers, to adore Jesus in the Eucharist, and to unite our hearts with the sacrifice of Christ.
If you pray the Rosary during Mass, your attention is divided.
You’re not fully listening to the Word of God or joining in the prayers of the Church.
You may be praying, yes, but you are not praying with the Church.
✝️ The Church Teaches Full Participation
The Second Vatican Council teaches clearly in Sacrosanctum Concilium (the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, n.14):
“The Church earnestly desires that all the faithful be led to that fully conscious and active participation in the liturgical celebrations which is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy.”
This means: when we are at Mass, we should not be saying our own private prayers, even the Rosary.
We are called to pray with the Church, not alongside it.
Our responses, our singing, our silence, our kneeling, all these are our Rosary of the moment.
They are how we unite with Christ in His Sacrifice.
✝️ When Then Should We Pray the Rosary?
Before or after Mass, absolutely yes.
At home, in the chapel, in the family, during Adoration, yes, yes, yes!
But not during the celebration of the Holy Mass.
Because during Mass, Mary herself is not praying the Rosary,
She is standing at the foot of the Cross, silently adoring her Son.
When you’re at Mass, she invites you to do the same:
to gaze at Jesus,
to listen to His Word,
to receive His Body,
and to adore His Presence.
That is the highest prayer you can ever pray.
✝️SO,
Next time you go for Mass, keep your Rosary close, but keep your heart closer to the altar.
The entire mystery of the Rosary, the Joyful, the Sorrowful, the Glorious, and the Luminous, all unfold right there before your eyes.
Because every Mass is the Rosary made alive:
the Incarnation, the Passion, the Resurrection, and the Glory, all in one moment.
So please, stop praying the Rosary during Mass.
Instead, live the mystery of the Rosary that’s unfolding right before you.
