We're excited to welcome leaders and Indigenous young people participating in the 2026 Pumpkin Run tomorrow at Newtown Mission.

The Pumpkin Run, run by Pathfinders, is a long-standing initiative that gives young people the opportunity to grow, harvest, and deliver pumpkins across NSW while building leadership, teamwork, and community service skills.

The group will be helping serve our weekly community lunch and sharing pumpkins with local community members. We're grateful to have them with us and to be part of this inspiring journey of connection, learning, and giving back.

National Reconciliation Week is a time to listen deeply, reflect honestly, and walk together toward justice and healing.

From 27 May – 3 June, we honour the histories, cultures, and enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, while recommitting ourselves to truth-telling, relationship, and reconciliation.

Reconciliation is not a destination, but an ongoing shared journey, one that calls each of us to participate with humility, courage, and hope.

All In: Reciprocity As Reconciliation

We said a couple of goodbyes now time for a couple of warm welcomes!
Melanie joined Newtown Mission in mid-April as our new Office Manager. She brings with her an abundance of experience and knowledge and we are so happy to have her on board.

We also warmly welcome Mikali as our new Student Minister. Mikali is a Sydney-based songwriter, musician, theologian, and candidate for ministry within the Uniting Church in Australia. Their work explores the intersection of faith, creativity, justice, and inclusive spiritual community. We are delighted to have join our team!

Genesis tells one of the most mysterious and powerful stories in the Bible.
Alone in the darkness, Jacob is confronted by a stranger and wrestles with him until daybreak.
The story leaves us with profound questions:
Why would God wrestle with Jacob?
Why wasn’t Jacob immediately overcome?
Why did Jacob cling so tightly?
And why did the blessing come through wounding?
Within this strange encounter lies a deep spiritual truth about struggle, surrender, and transformation.

💛National Volunteer week 18-24th May💛
This National Volunteers Week, we celebrate the people who quietly and generously give their time to serve others.

From preparing meals and welcoming guests, to offering care, conversation, and support, our volunteers help create spaces of connection, compassion, and belonging every day.

Thank you for all that you do.

We want to recognise David from Ingham's, who personally donated turkey products, purchased with his own money, to support our Thursday Evening Community meal service.

His generous contribution helped provide 110 meals for people in need through Jordan Cafe, which prepares more than 400 meals each week despite receiving very limited protein donations.

David’s kindness is a reminder that individuals can make a huge difference in supporting their community. We sincerely thank him for helping feed those doing it tough.

David's story is still unfolding.
Like so many stories here, it’s one of resilience, hope, and the power of community.
Thank you for being part of a place where stories like Dave’s can be heard.

• Canned fruit & vegetables (no legumes) 🍏🍅🥕
• Tuna 🎣
• Pasta 🍝
• Rice🍚
• Long-life milk 🥛
• Canned Soups 🥣

These simple staples help us provide practical support and meals for those doing it tough in our community. We have collection boxes at Newtown Mission inside the chapel, Camperdown community hall (Cardigan Street) and Paddington Uniting Church.
