Happy 900 months… in advance!!

Dear Ajahn Brahm,

Birthday Celebration!
Come join us to celebrate Ajahn Brahm's 75th Birthday!
When? 1 August 2026 at 9.30 am to 3:00 pm AEST
Where? Pick one of two locations!
(1) Buddhaloka Centre Malvern, or
(2) Online
There will be many exciting events on the day:
- Morning Fireside Chat on "Opening the Door of Opportunity" – A live, joint conversation between monastics from Newbury and Buddhaloka, exploring what unfolds when new doors open in spiritual life, community, and practice
- Lunch Dana
- Local Activities – Hosted in person at Buddhaloka Centre
- Afternoon Dhamma Talk by Ajahn Brahm – via a live video link to Buddhaloka Centre Malvern directly from Jhana Grove
- Live auction - hosted at Malvern and Jhana Grove. Funds raised will go towards the development of Sanctuary of Stillness Meditation Hall

Share Your Time, Serve with Heart ♥️

Volunteer responsibilities include:
- Welcoming and receiving food offerings from donors
- Assisting donors in heating and preparing the food for serving
- Cleaning and tidying the kitchen after lunch
- Other duties as necessary
- Keeping 8 precepts
- Minimum 1 week stay

What we offer:
- Free accommodation
- Daily meals except dinner
- A peaceful and supportive environment
- Quiet time each afternoon for rest, meditation, or personal practice

Centre Caretaker Needed Urgently for Sanctuary of Stillness (SOS)

The Sanctuary of Stillness (located on the same premises as Newbury Buddhist Monastery) is urgently looking for a Centre Caretaker, who is able to commit to a minimum of three months (long term preferred) and available to start at short notice.

This is an unpaid volunteer position with accommodation and meals fully provided. It offers a meaningful opportunity to deepen Buddhist practice within a supportive community while providing service to the monastics and the broader community.

Centre Caretaker activities include: -
• Supporting daily lunch dāna activities by interacting and assisting daily donor offerors with their food offerings.
• Helping coordinate emails, phone calls, and administration
• Assisting with the cleanliness and general care of buildings and grounds
• General Meditation Centre support activities

Suitable volunteers will need: -
• Emotional maturity and capacity for communal living
• Good organisational and communication skills
• A harmonious and adaptable nature
• An established meditation practice
• Willingness to observe Five Precepts, although the Eight Precepts would be preferable while living at the monastery
• Basic handy person skills (helpful but not essential)
• A current driver’s licence
• Interest in offering longer-term volunteer service

Preference is given to Australian residents and those with a driver’s licence. A two-week mutual
trial period applies for all new volunteer residents.

It is an opportunity to live simply, practise deeply, and support the Dhamma in a peaceful
monastery environment.

There are also other opportunities to volunteer such as:
• SOS Coordinator
• Kitchen Caretaker
• Accommodation Caretaker

Another historic event for Newbury and the BSV Community - Venerable Kondañño becomes the first novice monk (samanera) to receive the higher ordination (Upasampāda) at the Monastery!

Ajahn Brahm officiated at the ceremony as the preceptor for Venerable Kondañño, and the ceremony was watched by about 100 people, many of whom have witnessed Venerable Kondañño's journey from layman to Anagarika to novice and now to a fully ordained monk, a bhikkhu. It was a heartwarming occasion, and some tears flowed.

May Venerable Kondañño understand the Dhamma in this very life, like his famous predecessor!
