God of many Talanoas (stories) and witness,

As we celebrate 49 years of the Uniting Church, we give thanks for the communities that have shaped us. For congregations gathered in bustling cities and regionals towns, for elders who carried faith before us, and for new voices continuing to breathe fresh life into Your Church.

You created us in your image, to love one another just as much as you love us.

At Pentecost, Your Spirit moved among many languages, many peoples, many ways of hearing and understanding; all were drawn together by the good news of Christ.

Teach us to see diversity not as a barrier, but as a gift. Where fear or difference divides, make us people who choose welcome. Where others feel unseen or excluded, teach us to widen the circle with grace.

We pray for the whole Uniting Church. For every community seeking to live out Your love across cultures, generations, and places. May we continue becoming a Church where each person is honoured, where every voice matters, and where belonging is shaped not by sameness, but by the grace of Christ.

God, we thank you that we are united in You, that our diverse nature is created in your image and may you empower us to be people called to welcome all.

We pray in the mighty name of Jesus,

Amen.

land is my mother.
Like a human mother,
the land gives us protection
enjoyment and provides our needs
economic, social and religious.
We have a human relationship with the land:
Mother, daughter, son.
When the land is taken from us or destroyed,
we feel hurt because we belong
to the land and we are part of it. - Djinyini Gondarra

This quote by Djinyini Gondarra highlights the spiritual connection that Indigenous Australians have with the land.

In Indigenous cultures, the land is seen as a living entity, a mother who provides for her children.

The quote emphasises that the relationship between the land and people is reciprocal, with the land providing for the physical, social, and spiritual needs of its inhabitants.

Gondarra also suggests that the destruction or loss of the land can be deeply traumatic, as it severs the spiritual and cultural ties between people and their ancestral lands.

The quote underscores the importance of respecting and preserving the natural environment, not just for its economic or ecological value, but for its spiritual and cultural significance as well. FROM: https://barayamal.com.au/ten-aboriginal-quotes-and-sayings-on-spirituality-nature-and-humanity/

1 June marks not only the beginning of winter in the southern hemisphere but also PRIDE Month, which is an annual event that honours the history, achievements, and ongoing struggles of the LGBTQ+ community.

This month-long observance serves a dual purpose. It acts as a vibrant celebration of identity, love, and community. At the same time, it remains a critical period for advocacy, pushing for equal rights and highlighting the discrimination many individuals still face.

Understanding its cultural importance is incredibly helpful. Recognising the roots of this movement and finding respectful ways to participate can help foster a more inclusive society. (from: https://www.remitly.com/blog/lifestyle-culture/pride-month/ )

May we be open to the grace
that comes to meet us
in every crossing, every passage,
every place where we are working
to come through. - Jan Richardson
