This Easter, we reflected on scenes from the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus in our worship on Good Friday and Easter Sunday:
1. Jesus breaks the bread at the Last Supper
Matthew 26:26
"While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, 'Take and eat; this is my body.'"
2. Jesus prays at Gethsemane
Matthew 26:39
"Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, 'My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.'"
3. Jesus carries his cross
John 19:17
"Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha)."
4. Jesus says "It is finished"
John 19:30
"When he had received the drink, Jesus said, 'It is finished.' With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit."
5. The stone is rolled away
Matthew 28:2
"There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it."
6. Mary meets the risen Jesus in the garden
John 20:16
"Jesus said to her, 'Mary.' She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, 'Rabboni!' (which means 'Teacher')."
7. The risen Jesus appears in the upper room
Luke 24:36
"While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, 'Peace be with you.'"
8. Thomas encounters the risen Jesus
John 20:27
"Then he said to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.'"
