On Sunday Ps Michael led us through James 3:1-12, reminding us that our words have power and how we speak can change the course of the future. Your words can build up or destroy. What you say and how you say it has power. Your words can build up and be a force for good. Your words can also reveal you as two-faced and hypocritical. How are you using your words?

Ps Michael pulled no punches with a message from James 2:14-19 on Sunday.

Genuine faith in Jesus is not only something we confess, it's something we live out through love, action, and obedience. A faith that is not expressed through action is dead. Words alone are not enough if they are not supported by a life that reflects the love of Christ.

True faith produces evidence. "Show me your faith....." means to demonstrate or give evidence of what you believe. Faith and works are not opposites. Works do not save us but they reveal that our faith is real.

Jesus taught us in Matthew 25:31-46 that to love and serve others is to love and serve Jesus himself. "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40

Following Jesus requires change. Change in behaviours, attitudes, inclinations and priorities. Faith cannot remain private or passive. Real faith responds to the needs of the people around us.
