Ps Michael wrapped up our SGC on Sunday with an important reminder on the importance of prayer.
Prayer Offered in Love
James 5:13–20
Prayer is God’s invitation to bring every part of life before Him; our suffering, our joy, our sickness, and our struggles. James reminds us that prayer is always appropriate because it acknowledges God’s sovereignty and our dependence on Him.
Persistent and genuine prayer produces godly outcomes, not because prayer bends God to our will, but because it aligns us with His. When God’s answer is “no,” we are called to respond with humility, trusting His character and purposes.
Prayer is closely connected to faith, repentance, and obedience. Our words must be matched by lives that walk in step with God. As we confess, repent, and trust Him, prayer becomes a means through which God shapes us and accomplishes His work.
God can and does heal, yet His ultimate goal is not merely physical restoration but salvation and spiritual transformation. Like Paul learned through his thorn in the flesh, God can use suffering for a greater purpose, and unanswered prayers do not diminish His goodness or power.
The example of Elijah shows that effective prayer comes from a righteous person who trusts God’s will. The greatest miracle is not simply God’s provision or intervention, but people being brought back into relationship with Him. Ultimately, prayer offered in love seeks God’s kingdom purposes above our own and trusts Him whatever the outcome.
