Naracoorte Max Life mainly music mainly music is held on Wednesdays at 9:30am $5 a family per session. More info ph Norma 0409 152 286 Cost $5 per family per session.

'mainly music' is an interactive music session for preschool children and their caregivers. We sing songs and rhymes, learn actions etc for half an hour, then snacks are provided for the children and morning tea for the adults. Children then play while adults chat and catch up in a relaxed atmosphere. mainly music is held at Max Life Church, Robertson St at 9:30am Wednesday mornings during school

Many of the props used in mainly music are a variety of colours and you'll often hear the leader asking the children to tell their grown-up what colour scarf/maraca/feather they have chosen.

Why do colours matter in a child’s learning?

Learning about colours is important for children because it supports many areas of their development. It helps them understand and interact with the world around them while building essential skills for lifelong learning.

Cognitive development - recognising and naming colours helps children build memory, sorting, and classification skills. It strengthens their ability to notice similarities and differences, which is a foundation for problem-solving and critical thinking.

Language development - colour words expand vocabulary and improve communication. When children describe objects by colour, they learn to express ideas more clearly and understand instructions better.

Early maths skills - colours are often used in patterns, grouping, and sequencing. These activities introduce basic mathematical concepts like matching, counting, and ordering.

Visual perception and creativity - learning colours sharpens visual discrimination and encourages creativity. It helps children express emotions and ideas through drawing, painting, and imaginative play.

Do you know that song 'Head Shoulders Knees and Toes'? As you sing, naming the part of the body, you’ll be encouraging your children to learn without even realising. As they use the word and tap/pat/rub/tickle (whatever the action is) on their body, they’re reinforcing the word and its meaning.
If English is your subsequent language, you’ll find this helpful too.
