As many of you will know, our Parish has supported the Anglican Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza for many years. Last Saturday approximately 50 parishioners and friends gathered for a scrumptious fundraising high tea (and our thanks goes to Phoebe and her faithful catering team for this… made even more special by the lovely cups and saucers that we got to use). We heard from Tony and Robin Hickson, and Elspeth Kernebone who have served with Anglican Overseas Aid in Gaza. We learnt that in Gaza, Anglican Overseas Aid money is dedicated to providing salaries for the staff at the hospital (and for example, a surgeon is paid approx $1,000 per month). We raised around $4,600 from our high tea so this will help with salaries for several months! We continue to remember and pray for staff and patients at the hospital.

It was lovely to have the Rev Clem Taplin swap the “backseat pew” for the Sanctuary and celebrate yesterday! We gave thanks for Oblates at the Community of the Holy Name in Cheltenham and thank 3 of our parishioners Denise, Dennis and Sue for sharing their faith journeys towards making that step of becoming Oblates at that Community.

“God has called you into his Church….

Philippa, we therefore receive and welcome you as a member with us of the body of Christ, as a child of the one heavenly Father, and as an inheritor of the kingdom of God.”

Today was the second of our Confirmation Sessions as Rev’d Candice led our candidates as they explored the Holy Communion. They shared about special objects that mean something to them, had a go of preparing the chalice and finished with the Godly Play Story of “The Good Shepherd and World Communion”.

Some great news out of General Synod this morning!

A significant moment for the national church as the General Synod adopted a Bill for a Canon that enables the appointment of a full-time National Aboriginal Bishop and a National Torres Strait Islander Bishop.

Today, our Vicar Dianne and our Assistant Curate Candice headed to the Jumbunna Region Prayer Day where they lead the prayers for Children and Youth Ministry.
Rev Candice writes… “We used a creative prayer approach inspired by Prayer Spaces.
First we prayed for those young people currently in our parishes, praying for continued growth and nurture in their their faith journey. We used the imagery of looking towards Synod 2050.
Second we prayed for the ministries in our parishes, those already running, those that are hoped for. We prayed for our parishes and those ministries to grow with the image of leaves growing on a tree”.
