✝️ As Lent begins, Pope Leo XIV invites us to a powerful form of fasting: abstaining from harsh words and rash judgments πŸ™

β€œLet us begin by disarming our language, avoiding harsh words and rash judgement, refraining from slander and speaking ill of those who are not present… Let us strive to measure our words and cultivate kindness: in the family, among friends, at work, on social media, in political debates, and in Christian communities.”

In a world full of empty and hurtful words, may we replace words of hate with words of hope and peace πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ’™

Today, the Church celebrates the Feast of Saint Agnes, Virgin and Martyr. Born in Rome around 291 AD into a Christian family, Agnes at a young age dedicated herself entirely to Christ and refused marriage to even the most powerful suitors of Roman nobility. According to ancient tradition, her consecration to God led to her denunciation as a Christian during the early fourth-century persecutions. She was brought before authorities and faced attempts to violate her modesty. Through her intercession, she worked miracles, safeguarding her purity. Tradition holds that after rejecting the Governor's son, she was tied to a stake to burn, yet the flames refused to ignite or parted from her unharmed, and an officer then beheaded her. Agnes demonstrated unwavering faith, refusing to break her sacred promise to Christ and willingly embracing death for love of Him.
She is often represented with a lamb, symbolising her virgin innocence and a palm branch, like other martyrs. Saint Agnes, Virgin and Martyr, pray for us. πŸ™πŸ‘πŸ€
