St Martins Lutheran College Principal, Mr Alan Connah, will retire at the end of this academic year after a distinguished career that has taken him around the world. After 38 years in education, including more than 22 years as a Principal, Mr Connah has decided it is time to call it a day.
During his career Mr Connah has taught in all states and territories of Australia, except Western Australia and Tasmania, and internationally in Thailand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, China, India and Malaysia. His first teaching appointment was in Broken Hill, and it is fitting that he ends his career after more than 8 years as Principal at St Martins Lutheran College here in Mount Gambier.

Their curiosity, resilience, kindness and enthusiasm have been a daily reminder of the privilege I have had to be part of shaping their lives. Watching them grow academically, personally and spiritually has been one of the greatest rewards of my time as a teacher.โ
โServing the St Martins Lutheran College community has been a privilege for which I will always be profoundly thankful. It has been an honour to lead a community that is so deeply committed to nurturing young people in their learning, their character and their faith. At the end of the year, I will leave with a heart full of gratitude for the countless relationships, experiences and memories that have enriched both my life and ministry here.โ
When asked what his intentions are in retirement, Mr Connah said that he hopes to become more actively involved in community service and to see more of Australia and the world.
The College Board has already commenced an extensive recruitment process for a new Principal, with the aim of attracting a strong field of candidates to lead St Martins Lutheran College into its next chapter. In the meantime, the College remains in a strong position, with a dedicated leadership team committed to maintaining the high standard of leadership, learning and pastoral care experienced by students and families. The transition will be carefully managed, with continuity for students, families and staff remaining a key priority as the College looks confidently to the future.
