Daily Soul Boost | When Silence Means Yes
Pastor D**g Sarmiento
Num 30:9-19 (CSB) - If a woman in her husband’s house has made a vow ... and her husband hears about it, says nothing to her, ... all her vows are binding, …
As Israel journeyed with God, He gave instructions concerning vows and oaths. In this passage, God addresses situations where a woman made a vow while living in her father's or husband's household. If those responsible for her heard the vow and remained silent, their silence signified agreement, and the vow became binding. These laws highlighted the seriousness of words and commitments before God, as well as the responsibility people had toward one another within their relationships and communities.
This passage reminds us that there are times when silence can be interpreted as approval. While the specific regulations belonged to Israel’s covenant life, the principle remains relevant today. When we see someone moving toward something harmful, unwise, or contrary to God's ways, love calls us to speak with wisdom and grace. Faithfulness to God is not merely avoiding wrongdoing ourselves; it also involves caring enough to lovingly warn, encourage, correct, and guide those within our circle of influence. Speaking up is not about controlling others but about seeking their good and honouring God.
Let us pray: Lord, give us compassionate and discerning hearts. As Your Word guides us, help us use our voices wisely—not to push people around or dominate them, but to courageously speak truth in a spirit of care and love. Teach us to encourage, protect, and guide those You have placed in our lives. May our words be used for their good and for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Shalom and love to everyone!
