Buddhist Council of Victoria Dharmachakra Awards 2025 -Advancing Education: Mr Frank Carter at Victorian United Nations Day of Vesak Inc. at Melbourne Town Hall

Frank started practicing Buddhism at the Buddhist Discussion Centre Australia in 1983 under Teacher John Hughes. Being non-sectarian, the centre offered Frank a diversity of Buddhist Teachings and an opportunity to meet and know teachers from the major Buddhist traditions.

Since 2006, Frank, with his wife Anita Carter, have presented Buddhist Teachings to an audience of different ages and ethnic backgrounds as a practical guide for living, and for the development of inner peace, well-being and wisdom.

This Teaching program includes

Weekly classes, quarterly retreats, and regular introductory courses in Buddhism both online and in person
Publication of the book “Bringing Wisdom To Life” to celebrate the centre’s 40th anniversary
A weekly Buddhist Hour FM Radio program and World Buddhist Radio broadcasting Buddha Dhamma online 24 hours per day.
Publication of Buddha Dhamma videos and podcasts online, and via the centre’s two websites.
In 2025 the centre plans to partner with local libraries to present information sessions to the public on the foundations of personal wellbeing. These will be part of the Victorian Governments Libraries for Health and Wellbeing program.

The meaning......

Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Thera (Sinhala: අග්ග මහා පණ්ඩිත බලංගොඩ ආනන්ද මෛත්‍රෙය මහා නා හිමිපාණන් වහන්සේ) (23 August 1896 — 18 July 1998) was a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk who was one of the most distinguished scholars and expositors of Theravada Buddhism in the twentieth century. He was highly respected by Sri Lankan Buddhists, who believed that he had achieved a higher level of spiritual development. Sri Lankan Buddhists also considered Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Thera as a Bodhisattva, who will attain Buddhahood in a future life.
