Forest Sunday: “This year the National Parks Association and South Coast conservation groups launched the proposal for a Great Southern Forest—a vast connected conservation landscape stretching from the Illawarra to the Victorian border.
 
“The proposal imagines state forests, flora reserves and existing national parks connected and protected: forests recovering from fire and logging; habitat restored; waterways safeguarded; greater gliders, swift parrots, quolls and countless other lives given room to flourish.
 
“Ecojustice requires both things: the courage to say no to what destroys life, and the imagination to say yes to what life might yet become. To protect what remains. To repair what has been damaged.”

Forest Sunday: “For more than half a century, forests from this region have been cut and carried to Eden, much of the timber reduced to woodchips for export. Today, local forest groups continue to resist that model—through citizen science, public advocacy, legal challenges and presence in threatened forests.
 
“This is not simply a dispute about trees.
 
“It asks what forests are for. Are they principally a supply of material to be extracted? Or are they living communities—habitat, carbon store, water system, cultural landscape, home to creatures whose lives have value beyond their usefulness to us?”
