Hey friends, Dave Deane here. This Sunday at CCN, we come to one of the most quoted - and perhaps most misunderstood - passages in the NT: โ€œRejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!โ€

For some, that sounds beautiful, uplifting, musical. For others it sounds like an impossible burden: what if I canโ€™t? For all of us, this is the boiling point of our series theme: Choose Joy.

A gentle heads up: we will be talking candidly and carefully about anxiety, mental health, control, fear, and the gap between what we believe and what we feel. But, after wrestling with this text - and having it read me - I've come to see that Paul is not handing us a line to slap on a fridge magnet. There's no pretending here. Just the mercy of God teaching us to practise what He commands while resting in what He has promised.

All are welcome ๐Ÿ™‚

REJOICE ALWAYS!

See you 9:45am for a 10am start.

What if the things you're most proud of are the very things you hide behind?

Most of us are hiding. Not always behind failure. Often behind success. Behind decency. Sincerity. Usefulness. Morality. Competence. Reputation. Family. Work. Ministry. The things we've achieved. The things we're proud of. The things that make us feel like we are "someone."

That's the uncomfortable heart of Philippians 3.

Paul looks at the best parts of his life and says: "Whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ." Not his failures - his gains!

See?

Here's where the Christian message is far more confronting than most people think.

We need grace not only for what is shameful, but also for what is admirable. Because so often the problem isn't only that we trust the wrong things, it's that we ask good things to do what only Jesus can do.

The gospel tells you the truth about you, far more honestly than you would ever dare admit. And, at the very same time, it tells you that you are more loved than you ever dared hope.
That's the stunning turn around of this chapter. Paul doesn't want to hide anymore. He wants to be found! Not "found out" but "found in" Christ.

And this is gospel, precisely because Christ was first found among us:
Found in a manger.
Found among sinners.
Found touching lepers.
Found stripped.
Found mocked.
Found outside the city.
Found hanging on a cross.
Found dead in a grave.
Found risen and victorious.

The good news of Christianity is not that Jesus helps us tidy up our spiritual ledger. It's that He rewrites it completely.

True joy becomes unshakeable when Jesus Christ becomes incomparable.

Last Sunday was Pentecost Sunday. It was also the first week in our new building. So we took a week off our regular series in Philippians to ask: What does a building actually mean for a church?

Truth is, buildings can do strange things to people... They can serve a mission, or become the mission... They can open doors wider, or make us more comfortable inside them... So this past Sunday, Dave Deane shared "A Tale of Two Buildings"

๐ŸŽ‰ ๐—˜๐—ซ๐—–๐—œ๐—ง๐—œ๐—ก๐—š ๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ for Calvary Chapel Newcastle!

After months of prayer, planning, negotiations, renovations, and many hands making light work, weโ€™re grateful to share that CCN has a new church home.

This Sunday will be our first Sunday gathering at:
๐Ÿญ ๐—™๐—ผ๐˜…๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐—”๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜‚๐—ฒ, ๐——๐˜‚๐—ฑ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜†
๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ๐—ฎ๐—บ ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜†๐˜€

Now, I wouldnโ€™t say God arranged the church calendar around our leasing process ๐Ÿ˜… - but thereโ€™s something beautiful in that our first Sunday in this new space falls on Pentecost Sunday, the birthday of the Christian church.

As the wider church remembers the beginning of her mission, CCN steps into a new season of her own. ๐Ÿ™Œ

And thatโ€™s our prayer for this place: not that people would come to know our name, but that many would come to know the name of Jesus.

If youโ€™re new to church, returning after time away, looking for community, or simply curious, youโ€™d be very welcome to come along this Sunday.

Hey friends,

With everything going on in the world, life can feel like a long road marked by bad news, rising pressure, and disappointed hopes.
Easter does not pretend those things are small. But it does tell us they do not get the final word.

This Sunday at Calvary Chapel Newcastle weโ€™ll walk the Emmaus Road in Luke 24: two disappointed disciples, one unrecognised stranger, and a resurrection hope that turns everything around.
Would love to see you there.

Missiles over Tehran. Drones across the Middle East. Warships sinking. Leaders flexing. News cycles melting down. When moments like this happen, everyone starts asking questions like "Is this it?" "WW3?" "Is this the moment that changes everything?"

2,000 years ago the Apostle Paul wrote a letter from prison to a church living under the shadow of the Roman Empire and he told them something shockingly relevant: Caesar had his dayโ€ฆ But Jesus Christ ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜€ His Day.

This Sunday at Calvary Chapel Newcastle we continue our โ€œChoose Joyโ€ series in Philippians. And weโ€™ll see together how Godโ€™s answer to a world that keeps spilling blood is not first to hand us the lever of history, itโ€™s - through the shed blood of His Son - to call a people whose lives look like Jesusโ€™. And make no mistake - that is not less than justice - itโ€™s the very kind of people through whom God brings justice.

History does not belong to Tehran, Washington, or Jerusalem. History belongs to the risen King, and His Day is coming again.

Come join us as we open Godโ€™s Word together.

Hey, quick check-in. If your life had a colour right nowโ€ฆ what would it be?

๐ŸŸฅ Red zone: youโ€™re under it. Struggling. Running on fumes.
๐ŸŸง Amber zone: youโ€™re managing. Getting by. โ€œNot too bad.โ€
๐ŸŸฉ Green zone: things are working. Youโ€™re winning. Breathing easy.

Where are you on the chartโ€”and what happens to your โ€œwellbeingโ€ when one phone call flips the colour overnight?

This Sunday at CCN weโ€™re launching a new series through the book of Philippians called โ€œChoose Joy.โ€ Which (lets be honest!) sounds suspiciously like something printed on your grandmaโ€™s cushionโ€ฆ or a Kmart coffee mugโ€ฆ Until you realise the man who wrote Philippians was in prison. Uncertain future. Opposition rising. Facing ex*****on. And yet somehow, his letter overflows with joy.

We'll be spending 16 weeks in this AMAZING NT letter. And it all starts this Sunday. Looking forward to seeing you there.
