A Blessed Beginning: St John’s Anglican Church Visits Quba Mosque

On Saturday, 15 August 2026, Quba Mosque warmly welcomed clergy and members of St John’s Anglican Church, Camberwell, who chose to begin their observance of the Feast of St Mary at our mosque. Following a brief introduction to the mosque, selected verses from Sūrah Maryam were recited. Professor Dr Ismail Albayrak presented Mary from an Islamic perspective, while the Reverend Dr Gregory Seach explored her place within Christianity. Their thoughtful presentations showed how Mary—honoured in both traditions—can become a gracious bridge between believing hearts. Our guests then listened to the call to prayer and observed the Dhuhr prayer, later sharing how deeply they had been moved by the worshippers’ harmonious and synchronised movements.

After the prayer, guests and members of the Quba Mosque community shared lunch, warm conversation, tea, coffee and baklava. During the open-floor reflections, participants expressed their hope that such gatherings would take place more often. Visitors were especially touched by the presence of young people, the freedom and joy of small children within the mosque, and the welcoming spirit of the community. Drawing upon the Turkish expression “to touch one’s lips with honey,” we parted with the sweetness of friendship upon our lips and the hope of meeting again. What began as a visit became fellowship: two communities listened to one another, shared the same table and took another sincere step towards deeper understanding, enduring friendship and service to the common good.

Special Visit from the Governor of Victoria to Quba Mosque

Quba Mosque, which our community had eagerly anticipated as a place of worship and service, officially opened its doors to the public on 12 September 2025 in the presence of distinguished community members and leaders.

As Her Excellency had been unable to attend the official opening due to prior commitments, Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria, paid a special visit to Quba Mosque on Thursday, 2 July 2026.
During the visit, Her Excellency was given a comprehensive overview of the mosque's vision, activities, and the wide range of community services delivered through Quba Mosque and the organisations operating under the umbrella of the Australian Universal Federation (AUF). The visit also provided an opportunity to highlight the mosque's ongoing contributions in the areas of faith, education, youth development, family support, interfaith engagement, and community wellbeing.

Expressing her sincere appreciation, the Governor remarked on the breadth and positive impact of the services being provided to people from all walks of life. She conveyed her admiration for the dedication of the many volunteers and community leaders who tirelessly serve on the ground and personally thanked those involved for their commitment to strengthening social cohesion and enriching the wider Victorian community.

The visit concluded in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reaffirming the importance of collaboration, mutual understanding, and community partnership in building a more connected and harmonious society

Dear Quba Mosque community,

To avoid the traffic congestion we experienced at Eid al-Fitr, the Quba Mosque Committee has decided to hold the Eid al-Aḍḥā prayer on Wednesday, 27 May at 9:30am.

Please arrive early and park only in designated areas — Quba Mosque car park first, then La Belle Reception. Parking outside designated areas creates serious congestion and safety risks on Hume Highway. Volunteers will be on site to direct you.

Jazākumullāhu khayran for your cooperation.
