Chaya Moushka Mikvah has been a benchmark of the Melbourne Jewish Community for close to three decades. Although it is mostly frequented by women from the Orthodox Jewish Community, it is also widely used by many secular women, including the Reform and Conservative, particularly prior to their weddings and to complete their conversions. However, the most vital component of the Mikveh is the month
ly immersion of women who uphold the laws of Family Purity (Taharat Mishpacha). This Mitzvah is upheld not only by the Ultra-Orthodox and Chassidic women, but also, by many unaffiliated, and irreligious women. Chaya Moushka Mikvah attracts those from all walks of life, irrespective of their day to day religious observance. It provides a warm, welcoming, and non-judgemental atmosphere. Over the last years, three out of our ten bathrooms, and one of our two Mikvah rooms were renovated. We have another seven bathrooms, one Mikvah room, a waiting room, an entrance, and office, all in desperate need of renovations. The Mikvah experience should be a positive and enjoyable experience for every woman. In beautiful surroundings, a woman has the opportunity to truly relax whilst simultaneously fulfilling one of the most important Mitzvot in our Torah. In fact, our Rabbis teach that when a Jewish Community is being built, the first thing to be constructed is a Mikvah, even before a Shule (Synagogue). This Charidy Campaign will ensure that the Mikvah is renovated and is befitting the Melbourne Jewish Community. Funds raised will also go to a security system ensuring safety, an additional hot water system so warm water can be used on Yom Tov (Jewish Festivals), and some other extras. We are relying on the entire community for their support in this important project. We thank you and look forward in welcoming you to our Mikvah. Timmy Rubin
