This is an excerpt from the newest “Faces of Hope” Video on our YouTube channel. Sr. Gertrud-Maria shares:
My name is Sister Gertrud Maria Erhard. I am originally from Germany. At the moment, I work in the Family Movement in Austria. For more than twenty years, I have also been involved in the leadership of the Movement in Hungary, together with the Török couple, serving as a leader within the Movement.
So, what does my work actually look like? In my daily life, there are many weeks throughout the year when I spend a whole week, or five days, working with families at a formation center, usually at a Schoenstatt Center, where I lead a conference or retreat. During the week, there are also many individual conversations and meetings. And, yes, there is a lot of traveling. I am on the road quite a lot.
Most of the events with families that I have the privilege of accompanying take place at Schoenstatt Centers. At a Schoenstatt Center, we usually have a shrine — a Schoenstatt Shrine. It is modeled exactly after the original Shrine in Schoenstatt, the original place of grace where the Movement began in a small chapel. And over the years, we have been able to experience these shrines as places of grace as well.
Usually, one evening we go to the Shrine with ten, twelve, thirteen, or fifteen couples. And when we have a time of prayer there, I also benefit from the atmosphere of prayer. When those who wish to do so express something in prayer — a petition, adoration, praise, or thanksgiving — we sometimes learn even more about one another than when we sit together in a group and everyone shares. Somehow, prayer can take us even deeper.
And that creates a deep communion of hearts.

When the first sisters arrived in South Africa from Germany more than 90 years ago, they came ready for a great African adventure.
They imagined and prepared themselves to encounter lions, tigers, and all sorts of wild animals. But as far as we know...
They never actually came across any of them!
So that got us thinking... What if we went on our own adventure?
And discovered what awaits at the very tip of Africa
Our adventure started with some of the Cape’s most charming residents... the penguins. Then we met the famous Cape dassies. Hard to believe that these little creatures are related to elephants!
At Cape Point, we discovered tiny geckos basking in the sunshine, reminding us that even the smallest creatures can make an adventure memorable.
From breathtaking ocean views to unexpected animal encounters, our journey to the southern tip of Africa was filled with wonder.
No lions.
No tigers.
And thankfully...no other wild animals.
Just God’s beautiful creation waiting to be discovered.

In this jubilee year, we have many reasons to rejoice: we can look back with gratitude on the great things God has done in our personal lives and in the life of our community. Joy and gratitude are close companions! We pray for this inner joy—for ourselves and for all those who are united with us. It is the joy that comes from the Holy Spirit, as our Founder once described it:
“And the Spirit of joy, the Holy Spirit, wants today to make us all Vasa spiritualia; but as Vasa spiritualia, He also wants to make us Vasa laetitiae spiritualia. We want to be spiritual vessels, but even more, vessels filled to the brim with supernatural joy. And if the Spirit of God is the Spirit of heroism, then today He will also urge and impel us to the heroism of joy.”

Hello my name is Sr. M. Angrit and I have worked in the Sr. M. Emilie secretary office for about 20 years.
The Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary were founded on October 1st, 1926, by Father Kentenich. Sr M Emilie Engel was one of the first young women who made herself available for this new community.
Already as a young sister she offered her life to God so that the community would bring forth saints.
Sr. M. Emilie suffered a long phase of illness and had to endure many serious operations which resulted in a her being partially paralysed. She accepted all of this as a part of God’s plan of love.
Throughout her entire life as a sister, she was in various leadership roles and was a mother to all. Despite tremendous pain, Sr. M. Emilie always radiated joy and kindness.
She died on November 20, 1955, at the age of 62. In 2012 Pope Benedict declared Sr. M. Emilie as a “Venerable Servant of God.” This means she lived a holy life worthy of imitation and is the last step before her beatification, all that is now needed is a miracle through her intercession.  
My task is to promote the life and work of Sr. M. Emilie. I truly believe that she is a saint and continues to fulfill her mission today. We can turn to her in all our needs and difficulties. Through the example of her life and intercession she helps us experience God as our own loving Father.

So this is our shrine. Our beautiful villa Maria shrine. Come inside with me. Let’s open it up. My name is Sister Glynis. I’m a South African from Johannesburg, but I’ve been sixty three years in Cape Town. This shrine was built in 1952, the first one in Cape Town, but the second one in South Africa. The first one being in Cathcart in the Eastern Cape. This shrine was built in, as I say, in 1952 at the request of our founder, Father Joseph Kentenich. He asked sisters to please build a shrine so it could become a home for many people who would be passing by or who would belong to the movement. So we have a very busy city shrine. This is called a city shrine. Because people are working around us. There are, there are restaurants. There are offices there, accommodation. As you can see, it’s the same as all the other shrines throughout the world. And Mary is the light of our hope. This is a central place of silence, peace, peace and healing and love. People love to come to the shrine.

Today, on the Feast of the Assumption, we celebrate Mary's glory—and our hope.�Mary's Assumption reminds us that God leads human lives to their fulfillment in his light. That same hope is captured in the new Pillar of Light before the image of the Mother Thrice Admirable, Queen and Victress of Schoenstatt in the Adoration Church. It is the jubilee gift of the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary to Our Lady.
Every detail tells a story: its foundation speaks of God's covenant, the flowers recall a restored paradise, the ladders symbolize our journey with God through life's challenges, and the ever-burning light proclaims the fire of the Holy Spirit.
Together, they express one simple message:�Mary is the light of our hope.�As we celebrate her Assumption, may we renew our own mission—to follow her example and become, like Mary, a light of hope for many.

As we continue celebrating our Jubilee year, we look back with deep gratitude on our blessed history and the many ways God has guided our journey here in South Africa. The Schoenstatt Sisters have been part of this history since 1934. In 1935, when the second group of sisters was sent to South Africa, Father Kentenich encouraged Sister Digna, the group leader, with words that have echoed through the generations. Go! Just go! God’s blessing is with you. Imagine as you arrive in Cape Town. Our Lord is already standing on Table Mountain to welcome and bless you. You can be certain of the “Mater habebit curam” Our lady will always care for you. And I will stand behind you all the time. These words were not only meant for those pioneering sisters, they remain true for us today. Wherever God sends us, he goes before us with his blessing, wherever we are called to serve. Our lady is already there, welcoming, guiding, and caring for us. The courage of those first sisters reminds us to trust in God’s plan, even when the path ahead is uncertain. As we celebrate this jubilee, we are reminded to trust that wherever God calls us, he has already prepared the way. He provides the grace we need, and his blessings accompany us every step of our personal journey.

Today I am reporting from Kigali, Rwanda, where I am participating at the SIGNIS World Congress for Catholic Communicators. I have the joy of working as part of the media team from Vatican News and reporting for them. What a congress! There are around 300 people here from all continents and from over 40 countries. The congress has touched on the topics of discipleship in the digital age, creating a christian digital humanism, synodal communication, digital communication at religious cultural heritage sites. We heard about projects that empower Catholic sisters to tell their own stories in digital media and much more, were introduced to the communication projects for World Youth Day in Seoul next year and much more.
On the sidelines there was a lot of opportunity to network and share experiences. A truly blessed congress.
