📚 Day 2 at the Public Libraries Victoria ( ) Conference in Melbourne

The coffee is flowing
The conversations are getting deeper
And the ideas? Definitely not staying between the shelves 😊

We’re continuing the Recollect conversation, exploring how libraries can make their digital collections more accessible, discoverable and engaging for their communities.

Because behind every photograph, newspaper clipping, map, manuscript and treasured local story is a piece of history worth sharing.

Day 2, let’s digitise the past and bring it to life for the future.

With so many libraries already part of the Recollect community, the conference has been a great opportunity to share ideas, experiences and inspiration.

We’d love to hear what you’re doing with your digital collections.

If you’re attending, come and say hi to the team and discover how Recollect can help libraries manage and share their digitised collections online, making local history and community stories more accessible to everyone.

From photographs and historical documents to unique local collections, Recollect gives libraries a way to bring their digitised collections to life and connect communities with their heritage.

With so many public libraries already using Recollect, there’s plenty of inspiration to share.

😀 Drop by and see Richard Wilson for a look at Recollect, some great examples from other libraries, and a few ideas for sharing your own local history.

Microsoft 365 is where critical business information lives.

But information isn’t the same as it.

What happens when that information needs to remain trusted and accessible long after its active working life?

That’s where comes in and why it deserves a place in your information governance strategy.

Our latest article explores this gap and how can help bridge it - https://www.datacomit.com.au/microsoft-365-stores-your-files-but-does-it-preserve-them/

Yesterday, Roger Mills took to the stage at the Spark Conference in WA to present.....

👉 Foregrounding Stories Hidden in Metadata.

The session explored how Recollect linked data model enables archivists and collection managers to draw on existing metadata relationships to surface the narratives embedded within, and between, digital and physical collection items.

It was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas and be part of the conversation about the future of archives, special collections, and digital storytelling.

Thank you to everyone who attended the session 😊

Working with RMIT University Archives, DatacomIT digitised handwritten exam registers dating back to 1887 and applied Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) technology to convert them into searchable digital records.

The result?

Faster research, improved access to historical information, and better preservation of these invaluable archives for future generations.

💬 As the RMIT University Archives team shared:

“This has not only helped us preserve the condition of the registers, it has unlocked access to much more information within them as they’re now quickly and easily searchable, and has made the process and our response times more efficient.”

👉 This project reflects our commitment to helping institutions preserve history through digitisation and Handwritten Text Recognition, making valuable collections easier to discover, search and share.

Celebrating an incredible EOFY with the DatacomIT Melbourne team! 🎉

Our Melbourne EOFY luncheon was a chance to pause, reflect, and celebrate another year of outstanding achievements together. While Melbourne came together to mark the occasion, these milestones were made possible by the dedication and collaboration of our amazing teams across Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.

This year we've proudly:
📄 Digitised 45 million document pages
📽️ Digitised 5 million microforms and negatives
📚 Captured 500,000 bound images
🌐 Launched many new Recollect sites
…and that's just the beginning.

These achievements reflect the expertise, commitment and teamwork of colleagues across all three locations. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to another successful year helping organisations preserve, manage and share their valuable collections 🩵

Archives are more than collections of records, they are evidence of rights, custodians of memory, and foundations for future generations.

This International Archives Week , we celebrate the theme Archives for Justice: Rights, Memory & Futures, recognising the critical role archives play in protecting rights, supporting accountability, and preserving the records that document our collective history.

Digitisation is an important part of this work. By transforming physical records into accessible, searchable, and sustainable digital collections, organisations can help ensure vital information remains available to support research, transparency and justice for generations to come.

At DatacomIT, we're proud to partner with archives, libraries, museums, government agencies, and cultural institutions to deliver digitisation and digital preservation solutions that protect valuable collections while expanding access to the information they contain.

To all the archivists and preservation professionals we work alongside, thank you for your dedication to preserving memory and enabling future access to knowledge.

Happy International Archives Week.
