In 1993, in the International Year of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, Australia’s major faith communities adopted a Week of Prayer for Reconciliation, beginning on the anniversary of the 1967 referendum, 27th May. This was adopted by the wider community in 1996 as National Reconciliation Week. The Church has a special calling to reconciliation – firstly to work for justice so that all parties are equal in relationship, and then to build that relationship in humility, love and grace. In Victoria we celebrate our first Reconciliation Week since the state-wide treaty came into effect, and the first with an elected First Nations Assembly, Gellung Warl. The Wesley Church congregation joins in the theme for Reconciliation Week 2026: ‘All in for reconciliation.’

Here's a sneak peek of what Geoff will be playing at tomorrow's (26 May) free organ recital:

Come, Holy Spirit - J S Bach (1685-1750)

Tu es Petrus - Henri Mulet (1878-1967)

Concerto in B flat major - John Stanley (1712-1786)

The video shows Stephen Tharp playing Tu es Petrus at St Patrick's Cathedral. Mulet felt that the organ was "a stained-glass window. Its tones of imposing and embracing calm flood the air of our cathedrals, in the same way that ...stained-glass windows bring down meditation upon the congregation." (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henri_Mulet). We hope that you find some meditation with us tomorrow.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

This Sunday at Wesley: the11am Pentecost service will be a combined celebration, there will be no evening service this Sunday.

This Sunday, for Pentecost Sunday, we will come together to celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit, as Jesus-followers have been coming together to celebrate for the past 2000 years. The church will be in red, and everyone is invited to wear something red in honour of the Spirit. We will enjoy symbols from the Day of Pentecost: wind and fire and different languages being spoken. And as we open our collective heart to the unexpected ways of the Spirit being present among us, we can look for other signs of the Spirit recorded in the Scriptures –in fruits of the Spirit such as peace, patience and kindness; and in gifts of the Spirit such as prophecy, wisdom and administration.

Indigenous scholar Dr Anne Pattel-Gray’s new book, ‘Red Ochre Theology’, will be launched at the Centre for Theology and Ministry on June 18. Anne has spent the past two decades decolonising biblical narratives and constructing a theology that draws on Australia's First Nations creation stories, customs, ceremonies, rituals and philosophy. Rev Dr Garry Worete Deverell and Prof Peter Sherlock will launch the book.
