Today, the Rabbinical Council of Victoria (RCV) hosted an important and impactful workshop exploring the effects of family violence on children.

The session highlighted the lasting emotional, psychological, and communal impact that children can experience, and the responsibility we all share in creating safer, healthier environments for families.

A sincere thank you to Jewish Care Victoria for facilitating this vital conversation and Caulfield Shule for hosting.

A Special Evening of Unity and Inspiration

The Rabbinical Council of Victoria was honoured to welcome Chief Rabbi Mirvis for a truly special evening.

Together Rabbis and Rebbitzens gathered in a spirit of unity, inspiration, and shared purpose. Chief Rabbi Mirvis spoke powerfully about Jewish resilience, responsibility, and the strength that comes when our community stands together.

In challenging times for the Jewish people and for Israel, evenings like this remind us of the importance of leadership, faith, and unity.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for such a meaningful and uplifting gathering.

Last night, around 500 members of the Melbourne Jewish community gathered at Caulfield Hebrew Congregation for a powerful evening of solidarity and reflection.

Hosted by the Rabbinical Council of Victoria together with Zionism Victoria, Executive Council of Australian Jewry, Jewish Community Council of Victoria and the Zionist Federation of Australia, the gathering brought our community together to stand with the people of Israel during this difficult time, and to express solidarity with the brave people of Iran who continue to live under an oppressive regime.

We heard powerful reflections from the President of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria, Rabbi Moshe Kahn, who spoke about the enduring power of prayer, faith, and the deep spiritual connection that binds the Jewish people across continents and generations.

Our Vice President, Rabbi Daniel Rabin, reminded the gathering that while our history is often marked by pain and challenge, the Jewish people remain resilient and steadfast. Despite those who seek our destruction, we continue to stand strong, bringing light, hope and moral clarity to a world that desperately needs it.

We were also privileged to hear from Noosh, about her lived experience growing up in Iran ans wha this moment means for her. We heard from young Jewish leader Jeremy Suss, whose voice reflected the strength and commitment of the next generation.

The evening was a powerful reminder that even in moments of uncertainty and tension, our community stands united. Together in hope. Together in solidarity with Israel and with all those who long for freedom and peace.

Reflections from our President Moshe Kahn on his experience of the visit from President Herzog:

“What an honour it was to represent the Rabbinical Council of Victoria this morning at Government House for a beautiful lunch in honour of President Isaac Herzog and First Lady Michal Herzog, together with the Governor of Victoria, Premier of Victoria, the Leader of the Opposition, and other distinguished dignitaries.

It has been truly heartwarming to witness the warmth, respect, and friendship that the Australian Government has extended to the President. In challenging times, these moments of solidarity mean so much.

It was then incredibly uplifting to join the community alongside hundreds of school students for the main event in Victoria. To see such unity, pride, and strength gathered in one place was deeply moving.

On a personal note, it meant the world to hear my niece, Chavi Block, share her powerful and harrowing story of surviving the Bondi attack. Listening to her speak with such resilience, courage, and unwavering spirit filled me with both emotion and immense pride. Her strength is a testament to the enduring soul of our people.

Am Yisrael Chai.”

Sussan Ley, Leader of the Federal Opposition, met today at Caulfield Shule with the executive of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria (RCV) for a constructive and candid discussion on issues impacting the Jewish community in Victoria and across Australia. Today, members of the RCV were on the ground supporting communities impacted by the bushfires, joined by David Southwick MP.

Travelling through smaller regional towns, they witnessed firsthand the devastation left behind, including in Ruffy, where the local school and supply store have been destroyed. The scale of loss is confronting, and the road to recovery will be long.

What was equally striking was the strength and unity of these communities. Neighbours standing together, supporting one another, and facing the challenge ahead with dignity and resolve.

Together with CCare, The Good Box and Australian Sikh Support, they delivered supplies and assisted where needed. The Sikh community’s ongoing commitment to helping Australians in times of crisis, both during these fires and in previous emergencies, continues to be an inspiring example of compassion in action.

This visit was a powerful reminder of the role faith leadership plays beyond our own communities, standing in solidarity, offering practical support, and strengthening the social fabric of our broader society.

Our thoughts remain with all those affected by the bushfires, and we commend the resilience, courage, and spirit of the communities we met today.

Standing Together. Remembering Together. Healing Together.

In the immediate aftermath of the horrific attack in Bondi, while the flames of Chanukah were still burning, our community gathered at Caulfield Shule for a Community Solidarity Gathering. It was raw, emotional, and deeply moving. Before the shock had even settled, the community came together to light candles, to pray, and to hold one another in a moment when words were still hard to find. That night, our community became light in the face of darkness.

Now, at the Bondi Shloshim Memorial Service at St Kilda Hebrew Congregation, we returned together to honour the fifteen precious lives that were taken. Shloshim is a sacred Jewish moment. It recognises that grief does not end after the first days of mourning. It deepens. It settles. It becomes something we carry. We pause not only to remember, but to ensure that those who were lost are never reduced to headlines. They remain names, families, stories and souls held by our community.

The Rabbinical Council of Victoria is proud to have stood with other communal organizations and the community at both of these moments. From the first night of shock and heartbreak, to this solemn gathering of remembrance, we have witnessed what Jewish unity truly looks like.

May the memories of those who were murdered be for a blessing, and may the strength of our community continue to be a source of comfort, courage and hope.
