Youth Service Message Deacon. Hani – Numbers 14

God did not call us to stay the same year after year (2 Corinthians 3:18). Some of us have accepted Christ for years but are not growing as believers, so what is the problem? If you are not growing, there is an issue, and when there is an issue you don’t ignore it, you go to the doctor. How can we be the same from the beginning until now?

The Israelites saw the sea split in half (Exodus 14:21), they ate manna from heaven (Exodus 16:4), they witnessed miracle after miracle, yet they still complained (Numbers 14:2). But complaining was not the real reason they stayed in the desert. People don’t complain when they only have one option, they complained because they still had other gods in their hearts (Ezekiel 20:7–8). The gods of Egypt never truly left them, so even though they left Egypt physically, Egypt never left them spiritually. That is why a short journey turned into 40 years (Numbers 14:33–34).

We look at them and ask how could they be so stubborn after seeing so much, but this same story reflects our lives today (1 Corinthians 10:11). There is a teaching that says once you come to God He will change everything and you can just relax, but that is not the truth. Yes, when we accept Christ His Spirit lives in us (Galatians 2:20), but our old nature still fights back (Galatians 5:17), so every day is a battle. God delivers us from addictions, failures, and our past (2 Corinthians 5:17), but we still have a responsibility to walk with Him daily through the power of His Spirit (Luke 9:23).

Fear kept the Israelites stuck. When the spies went into the promised land, fear took over (Numbers 13:31–33) and they chose death over life with their words (Numbers 14:28). Our speech should build, not destroy (Proverbs 18:21). Fear still holds believers back every single day, but if we truly knew God’s promises we would not live in fear (Isaiah 41:10). Even Elijah, after everything God did through him, became afraid (1 Kings 19:3), but God reminded him that he was not alone (1 Kings 19:18).

The problem is not our circumstances, the problem is in our hearts (Jeremiah 17:9). That is what holds us back. God clothes the grass of the field, are you not more valuable than they? (Matthew 6:30)

It is time to grow.

Youth service tonight’s word through Deacon Hani.

“Do not have any other gods before Me.”
Exodus 20:3

A powerful reminder that anything taking God’s place in our hearts can slowly become an idol.

Whatever takes too much of your heart, time, focus, and obedience can slowly become your god.
Whatever dictates your daily choices becomes your master.

• People / Relationships
Sometimes people can take the place that only God should have in our hearts.

“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters… yes, even their own life, such a person cannot be My disciple.”
Luke 14:26

Jesus must remain the red line that nobody crosses.

“For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world.”
2 Timothy 4:10

• Lust / Sin
Adam and Eve desired the forbidden tree.
Sin never looks dangerous in the beginning.

The enemy does not always destroy someone instantly. He attacks slowly, subtly, patiently.

“Whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.”
John 8:34

The world says:
“Enjoy your life, you’re young.”

But sin always promises freedom while producing chains.

• Social Media / Distractions
One of the biggest thieves of this generation.

It steals:
- Time with God
- Time with family
- Peace
- Focus
- Prayer
- Time in the Word

Hours disappear on a screen without noticing, yet sometimes 5 minutes with God feels heavy.

“Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
Ephesians 5:16

• Pride
“I know enough.”
“I know the Bible.”
“I don’t need correction.”

Until self slowly becomes god.

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
James 4:6

We must always stay humble before the Lord.

We are also like the prodigal son.

Everything we have was given by God, yet many times we use His gifts for the world and for our own pleasure.

Our eyes, ears, hands, legs, mouth, strength, time, talents, money, and energy all belong to Him, yet we can waste them chasing temporary things instead of God.

The prodigal son took what came from the father and spent it far away from the father.

Many times we do the same.

But thank God His mercy still waits for us to return.

“I will arise and go to my father…”
Luke 15:18

The people in the Bible were humans just like us.
The difference is they feared God and loved Him deeply.

Daniel chose God over comfort.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego chose God over the fire.
The disciples chose Jesus over the world.

Everything God offers, Satan tries to imitate with a counterfeit.

The world offers temporary pleasure.
Jesus offers eternal peace.

“What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”
Mark 8:36

The rich young ruler walked away from Jesus because he could not surrender his wealth. Money became his god.

But if your heart truly belongs to God, you will choose Him first again and again, no matter the cost.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.”
Matthew 6:33

In Book of Daniel chapter 3, when the music played, an entire nation bowed to the Idol before them, but three men stood for God.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to compromise even when the pressure was great and the furnace was waiting.

Their faith was not based on comfort or convenience. They said,

“Our God is able to deliver us, but even if not, we still will not bow.”

Today the world still tries to make people bow
to fear
to pride
to sin
to approval
to compromise

But God is still looking for people who will stand faithful when everyone else bows.

May we be a generation that worships God boldly, lives in truth, and refuses to compromise no matter the pressure.

YOUTH SERMON TONIGHT

The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares
Word shared by Deacon Hani

God created everything good, but the enemy came and planted evil. Through disobedience, sin entered the world.

Weeds don’t need watering to grow.
The moment satan said, “You will be like God,” the seeds of rebellion, thorns, and weeds were planted into humanity.

But through Jesus Christ, we can be born again.
We are no longer bound by Adam’s sin. God cleanses the weeds and thorns from our hearts and makes us His wheat.

Yet even as believers, we still live in a world full of weeds and thorns.

God’s Word to Adam was clear, but they left the Word of God.
That is why we must stay close to God and close to His Word, so our ears are not opened to the voice of the enemy.

Many times satan’s voice sounds logical, normal, and appealing especially when we do not know God’s Word.

Examples throughout the Bible:
• The serpent to Eve: “You will not surely die.”
• Sarah telling Abraham to have a child with Hagar.
• Peter telling Jesus not to go to the cross, yet Jesus replied, “Get behind Me, satan.”
• The Israelites saying Egypt was better and wanting to return.
• Judas criticizing the woman who poured perfume on Jesus.

The enemy works nonstop.
Slowly he tries to put our spirit to sleep. Sin never begins with chains — it begins with comfort, compromise, pleasure, and peace with the world. But eventually it leads to bo***ge.

Sin grows fast if left unchecked.
It spreads like weeds.

Don’t harden your heart toward God.
Don’t fall asleep spiritually.

Maybe we have heard many sermons and messages, and they have become normal to us going in one ear and out the other. But today, let there be change.

Instead of becoming a stumbling block to others, let us become a blessing that impacts lives for Christ.

Stay ready.
Stay separate from the world.
Stay rooted in the Word of God.
