Pentecost is one of the most important celebrations in Christianity. It commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary, fifty days after Easter.

What Pentecost Means for Catholics Today Pentecost is not only something that happened long ago. The same Holy Spirit who descended on the apostles continues to guide the Church, sanctify the faithful, and strengthen Christians to proclaim Jesus Christ.

Pentecost reminds us that the Christian life cannot be lived by human effort alone. We need grace. We need courage. We need the Holy Spirit to renew our hearts and purify our desires.
