Saint Nektarios - Greek Orthodox Parish of Fawkner

What a beautiful evening of prayer and fellowship at Saint Nektarios in Fawkner for our annual parish Vigil commemorating the Translation of the Holy Relics of Saint Nektarios. We are so grateful to everyone who joined us, and we were especially blessed by the presence of visiting clergy and chanters.

Our heartfelt thanks to Fr Efraim Kourtoglou from St Vasilios in Brunswick, Fr Konstantinos Papapetros, Fr Efstathios Papadopoulos, Fr Evangelos Georgiou from St Andrew’s in Sunshine West, Fr Stergios Patsouris, Fr Kyriakos Peripetsakis from St Eleftherios in Brunswick, and Fr John Frangos.

A special thank you also to the Head Chanters, Raphael from St Athanasius in Springvale, Timothy from St Andrew in Forest Hill, and Foti from Adelaide, together with all the chanters and students of the Byzantine Music School of Australia. Their heartfelt chanting added greatly to the beauty and prayerfulness of the Vigil.

We are deeply grateful to everyone from our parish and wider community who joined us, and we look forward to welcoming you again next year.

May Saint Nektarios continue to intercede for us all and grant us every blessing.

With great joy, it is announced that on Friday 18 September, the Holy Diocese of Chora will celebrate the Feast of St Evmenios, Bishop of Gortyna, on which occasion His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora also celebrates his Name Day.

The festal services will be held at the Cathedral church of Our Lady “Axion Estin”, Northcote - 7 Hartington Street.

Thursday 17 September, 6:30 pm
Great Hierarchical Vespers
A reception will follow in the Cathedral function room for all.

Friday 18 September, from 7:30 am
Matins and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy
A reception will follow in the Cathedral function room for all.

As we prepare to hear this Sunday's Gospel according to Matthew 22:2-14, we invite our parishioners to take a few moments to read this beautiful reflection, “Called to the Banquet of Eternal Life”, by Associate Professor Philip Kariatlis of St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College.

The Gospel reminds us of God’s loving invitation to the eternal banquet and challenges us to consider how we respond to that invitation in our own lives.
