Pray for Nepal

We pray for the people of Nepal following the devastating floods and landslides.

For the families of those who have died, those still missing, and all whose homes and livelihoods have been affected.

For emergency workers and communities responding to the devastation.

May God bring comfort to those who grieve, strength to those who suffer, and hope for the days ahead.

Lord, in your mercy,

From this Sunday, Christians around the world will join together for the Global Week of 24-7 Prayer.

From 6–13 September, churches in every nation are being invited to pray together, lifting up the name of Jesus and praying for our communities, cities and world.

Here in Melbourne, St Paul’s Cathedral will host interactive prayer stations throughout the week, creating space in the heart of the city to pause, pray and reflect.

This year’s theme, At the Name of Jesus, draws on Philippians 2:9–11 and the invitation for the global Church to unite in prayer.

It was lovely to see women from across the Anglican Church gather for the Blessed is She conference this weekend.

The conference brought Anglican women together from across Australia for worship, teaching, conversation and encouragement, with a strong cohort joining from Melbourne.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at St Paul’s Cathedral for Afternoon with Archbishop Ric.

It was good to gather for conversation, questions and shared reflection, and to hear something of what people across the diocese are carrying and asking.

At St John’s Cranbourne, Sam and the congregation have seen people encounter Jesus in ways they could never have planned.

Through dreams, unexpected encounters with Scripture, conversations with friends and opportunities to explore faith through Alpha, people are discovering Jesus in surprising ways.

For Sam, it has also been a lesson in trusting God. Naturally introverted, he has learnt that he does not need to become someone else for God to use him.

“I just need to be ready for him to be at work through me and open to what he might lead me in.”

Sam’s story is an encouraging reminder that God is already at work — often in ways we cannot plan or predict. Our part is to be ready and open to where he might lead.

Free Training - Violence Against Women Prevention and Response

The Anglican Diocese of Melbourne’s Preventing Violence Against Women (PVAW) Program offers a one-day training designed to equip church communities to recognise, respond to, and help prevent family violence.

This training will assist participants to:
1. Understand the nature and dynamics of family violence
2. Recognise signs of violence and respond safely to disclosures
3. Take practical steps to prevent violence against women
4. Make churches safer and more supportive places for all

All training runs from 9am to 4pm, and lunch is provided.
The training is suitable for clergy, lay leaders, and parishioners.

The Archbishop's Year is a new diocesan learning community investing in upcoming Anglican leaders in the Diocese of Melbourne.

Running throughout 2026, the program brings participants together for leadership development, spiritual formation and shared learning as they grow in serving Christ and His Church.

Throughout the year, participants hear from key speakers including Archbishop Ric Thorpe, planters and church practitioners from across the Melbourne diocese, Mark & Trudi Sayers, and Deb & Alan Hirsch to name a few. Throughout the year, the participants explore topics such as leading self and others, ministry in their local context, and spiritual practices that sustain faithful leadership.

We're looking forward to gathering again in August as this journey of learning, encouragement and formation continues. Please pray for all those taking part as they seek to serve Christ faithfully in their churches and communities.
